Marriott Transfer Question

Hi guys,

I've got a question about transferring points.

I understand Marriott will only transfer points from one account to another if the other account has an active reservation - to which they will apply the points.

If I cancel that reservation after points are transferred, do they return the points back to my account or original account or are they forfeited?

If you have any experience, please let me know. Thanks

I believe the points (all of them, including those transferred) will be returned to the account from which the reservation was made.

When you fill out the transfer form, you will transfer into the account with the pending reservation.

You will not lose any points, unless you get a travel package with a 7 night certificate, and you let it expire. Normally good for 1 year and can often be extended to 2 years if you ask Marriott rewards customer service.

As nachosdelux states all the points will go into the account that ordered the award. And yes that means this would be a way to move points from one account to another without paying any fees.

But with that said, be careful doing it. If it happens once, I doubt there would be any issues. (I have actually done it once with no problems as I really did want to cancel the award and change it to something else.) If you try to do it more than once though, it may flag your account which might cause Marriott to really scrutinize it. And depending on what they decide, they could possibly close your account and you would forfeit all the points.

I don't have any knowledge of whether Marriott does or doesn't track these type of point transfers as I don't know of anyone who has actually tried to do it 2, 3, 4 or even more times. So tread carefully if that is what you were thinking about.
