When does status expire?

Thought it would have expired end of year or Jan 31. Does Marriott do something different? I do have an offer for Elite Buy Back but no where does it state when and where my status actually expires.

Thanks!

Last day of February, like many/most programs I'm familiar with.

Status change during stay?

I have stay at a FS Marriott coming up 2/26 to 3/2 so it overlaps the expiration of my gold status on 2/28. Will the hotel treat me as gold for the entire stay or will I be demoted on Saturday?

Last year mine expired on Feb 27. When I checked in on Feb 28 and told them I wanted points (since the person behind the desk didn't ask), I was told that I was Gold.

I'm not sure how the hotel would demote you. Point bonuses may or may not drop, but I suspect the hotel will see you as Gold for the stay.

I suspect your first "night" was March 1, they day you would pay/check-out, so your status actually expired on the 28th. There have been various discussions on what "day" a stay, night, etc. occur.

Got downgraded to Gold from Platinum today:
- even though the card says 02/2014 (which i assume is the last day)
- and around January my online page says "Congrats, your plat has been renewed" (or something to that effect.) (and yes, based on nights, I should be gold but not until 3/1 )

oh well.

just got off the phone with Marriott and was told:

"we typically downgrade on the last Sunday in February. we put 02/2014 on your card because the downgrade can theoretically happen anytime through february 2014."

kind of a fail because "valid thru 02/2014" seems to imply (like most other programs) end of the month.

Boy, that is some real obscure, technical knowledge for some random phone agent to know given that they don't often understand other well known features the way we do.

But I hope its true since I'm still PP today on the site! Only for bragging rights and shaming hotels into upgrades, otherwise its meaningless.

They declared me unworthy and disfellowshipped me to silver last week. Not to mention downgraded to a Cat 1-4 Megabonus offer.

It's my second program and I've been up and down between silver and plat a half dozen times, but never dropped so early in the month.

My wife's platinum status is also supposed to expire this month. After reading your post, I logged in to see if hers had been updated. It's still showing platinum, so maybe she ducked under the radar.

Her megabonus promotion was for a cat 1-4... which is completely useless IMO. Is there a single decent CAT 4 in a metropolitan city in the US? Even in Cincinnati, the Residence Inn is CAT 6... that's ridiculous!

Two days ago on 2/23 my profile still showed gold status. Yesterday it had changed to silver. When I saw that I immediately responded to an email from United I received earlier this month offering Marriott gold status due to my 1K status with United. As of today I am back to gold status.

Is there any fast track to Gold after dropping to silver? I just dropped and now I'm gold at Hilton cause of a status match, some areas I will be heading will not have hilton so I'm kind of blown that my status dropped

Hi ho Silver!

Can't really complain, as I canceled the credit card and didn't have a single paid stay last year (redeemed two award nights at RC Tokyo for New Years Eve) I was surprised to get a soft landing.

I was pleasantly surprised that Marriott extended my Plat Elite status through next year despite only staying a handful of nights in 2013. I received a brochure with my new card acknowledging my shortcoming but that they wanted to continue to earn my business back.
