Employee Outside CL Checking Names
Sorry if this has already been posted elsewhere...
This morning, outside the door of the CL at the Chicago Mag Mile FS, there sat a woman with a list of who was CL-eligible. She was checking everyone as they entered the CL to see if they were on her printed list of ~140 people staying at the hotel who were permitted access.
At 7:00 am, the CL was not overcrowded. It is a large CL, and the last minute rate I snagged would indicate the hotel isn't anywhere close to full, but I found their checking who was using lounge interesting and wondered if it kept the CL from getting crowded.

Good on them. You would be amazed at how many people with decent incomes and good jobs will commit petty scams for a $2 muffin.

^ Hopefully this will also serve as a check on the number of guests brought in.

I was also at the CL at Chicago Mag Mile this morning (8:30) -- there's a large conference (starting today) at this Marriott plus Sheraton and Fairmont, and it seemed like they were keeping a check on people bringing guests.
Thought it was a nice lounge -- spacious, good selections of food/coffee.

They did something similar during our stay at the San Diego Marriott Marquis. She didn't check names, but greeted everyone and had them use their own door key to get in, to prove they had access.
It didn't prevent that lounge from being a total zoo.

Seems only appropriate for a country club style lounge. Cough cough.

Actually, this was the reason she gave for them checking.
We probably missed each other. I went down for breakfast at seven, then back down for coffee just before nine. While it is a nice CL, a couple years ago they had much more out for breakfast. And I hate having to ask for Diet Pepsi and having it served in a wine glass. You can't bring a can to your room for later.

Happened to me as well in British Columbia, Canada. The Marriott in Victoria was forcing all guests to sign the guest book and the Renaissance Vancouver had the lounge lady checking/marking names in her list.
I have mixed feelings about this practice but it might be helpful to fight overcrowding. I have seen plenty of people hanging by the CL door and slipping in when the door opens...

^ too many overcrowded lounges and clearly too much abuse. I see this often outside the US where someone is asking for name and room #; rarely in the US. Glad some hotels are addressing the apparent issue.

I'm fine with them verifying access.
