Back after a long time away

I am back traveling for Corporate for the next two years on a work project (after not traveling for the last ten years).

I just had a few questions that that I think I know but wanted to run by the experts for any tips.

I will be elite Silver next month, the real challenge is can I make gold by year end (by my count I will have about 40 nights with my current travel plans). Is there any way to get a stay credit besides a night in a hotel?

Do nights that I stay with points rather than cash count as a stay toward elite levels?

When using points for room upgrades vs a free room is it best to do that when checking in (and try for a comped upgrade vs. actually having the points charged)?

Any other tips for someone that hasn't really done corporate travel in a decade?

If you had no status last year I think you can do the Platinum Status Match. See the thread on the top of the page.

Definitely the status match. Also get a Marriott CC if you can use for work. Sign up for promotions there is 1 going now. Marriott Rewards Unexpected Bonus. Read some of the threads here about the Marriott changes (not good) and most importantly figure out how and where you are going to use your points and plan ahead.

Also find out where you are with lifetime status.

Good luck

The Marriott Rewards Signature Visa will get you 15 bonus nights a year plus an extra night for every $3000 more in CC spend with no cap in extra nights. Also, put your birthday in your Marriott profile and you will get one bonus night every year for your Birthday. Every extra night helps...
