LT Platinum using AMEX points?
I checked in with Marriott today and found that I am about 100,000 points short of hitting the LT platinum level. I have tons of AMEX membership rewards points and asked if I could transfer over the needed amount to hit the 2,000,000 that I need. They said that would work fine. I have more than enought nights to qualify. Is there any danger in going this route?
(I won't hit platinum this year so I wanted to shore up my lifetime status.)
Thanks
IAN

Marriott doesn't care where the points come from, only that you have hit their minimum threshold for total lifetime points. So if you can move the points from Amex to Marriott, they won't care.
I assume you have the required number of nights for Plat status (i.e. 750 nights)?

While you can use your MR to get a gift card for marriott or ritz, Membership rewards is not a transfer partner with Marriott.

I wondered about that (why I put "if" in my earlier reply), but I haven't been a Membership rewards member for quite a few years now. (My company stopped letting us get MR points on our corporate travel cards.

I am in the same boat. Plenty of nights and AMEX points. Short on Marriott points. Maybe (hopefully) they will be a transfer partner in the future.

I am 75000 points away from lifetime Marriott platinum. I have the other requirements. I'm looking at my UR points and debating whether to pull the trigger. I'm probably going to wait until yearend before I make the decision and see if I am still short. You may want to look over to the ultimate rewards thread to see if there is an opportunity to get some points via UR. I will assume you already have the marriott card.

Does anyone know what counts as lifetime points besides for the obvious hotel stays? My wife almost has enough nights for LT Gold, but is way short on points. For example, do all of the following count:
- credit card sign up bonus
- credit card points
- UR point transfer
- point transfer from spouse?
Thanks, Dave
