Same here. I am plat. I didn't have a lot of stays last year but let's say about 15 and not a single suite upgrade the whole year.

Ed French mentioned in an interview that domestically only about 10% of elites get upgraded to suites. It does happen (as people have noted on this thread), but that doesn't make it the norm. And if one asks for it (as USIrritated does every time according to his posts), sometimes there's a better chance than just hoping. But a lot of things go into play - length of stay, occupancy rate, how many other elites also checking in & requesting a suite upgrade before another elite, etc, etc.

Cheers.

Yes Sharon, I do. FWIW, for 2013, two hotel stays so far, two suite requests, two suite stays, including my present five day stay, through 2/25/2013, and my last stay from 2/8-2/11/2013.

No harm in asking. The worst they can say is no.

For award stays with the wife I call the plat desk and get the e-mail of the general manager and send a note requesting a suite upgrade if available.

Always respectful and my hit rate is about 90% over the last 5 years.

While on business I could not care less about suite upgrades.
