Question about Platinum breakfast
If I am staying at a Marriott hotel in the US over the weekend, will I as a Platinum get any free breakfast?

Officially in the US, no. The MR program specifies breakfast for Platinums only on Monday-Friday.
Some properties (see the sticky threads) will open their lounges on weekends and some properties may give a breakfast voucher on weekends but it is totally dependent upon the kindness of the individual property (or front desk clerk). Asking nicely doesn't hurt...and, yes, I've gotten a couple of breakfasts that way but most of the time I'm told, "Sorry, sir..."

Note that most non-FS Marriott hotels provide free breakfast to everyone 7 days a week. So you would still get breakfast at those. (CYs are the big exception to that though.)

IME it is property specific. Do they have to... generally not. Do some give do some sort of alternative... yes. Best advice is to contact the property in advance if Breakfast is important. Otherwise some do have special weekend rates that include Breakfast.
As stated above, sometimes it just comes down to who helps you at the front desk. Not exactly the most consistant answer but it seems to be the most accurate one in practice.

I just checked out of the Marriott in Copenhagen. I was charged for breakfast because I checked in on a Sunday, even though I ate it on a Monday.

Outside the U.S. and Canada, you are entitled to continental breakfast 7 days a week.

at most Marriott's when the prop has a lounge breakfast is provided in the lounge UNLESS otherwise noticed in writing such as "plats are offered breakfast either in our lounge or in the XXXXXX Restaurant" (or your rate was B&B)....... obviously there's a difference between full breakfast in the rest vrs continental in the lounge.........

My wife an I (I'm plat, she's not an MR member) were BOTH offered free breakfast at the full service Oakland Marriott City Center on a 1-night Rewards stay. It was a wonderful breakfast in the restaurant. We loaded up on omelets, fresh fruit, yogurt, and waffles.
I wish this policy was maintained at all full service properties. It really is wonderful!

I got a response from Marriott customer services this morning. They said it was a mistake and I should not have been charged, so they are refunding the amount to my CC.
I thought it was a mistake too, as I have not had to pay for breakfast at a Marriott since 2006, either on a paid stay or on redemption. Apart from the Courtyard in Brussels, where they charge a small fortune regardless of your status.

perhaps that's because CYs, and a few other brands, are not included in the brekkie provisions for golds/plats.........

Thanks - I do realise that. It's just that the CY in Brussels really takes it to extremes with the price it charges for a very ordinary meal.
