OT, because the points I transferred in mid-Nov. were Choice Privileges, but I got my 30% bonus today, too!

Wrong forum unless Marriott is buying Choice too. :)

Actually, they posted 3 days ago. They just back dated the transaction to Nov 30 so you're not as far out of the loop as they would like to make you think. ;)

OT = "off-topic." Which my post was only halfway, because although Choice is not Marriott, it still is relevant to UA giving bonuses on transfers of hotel points!

Hey, stupid question from a newbie to the Marriott packages

I'm building up enough points to redeem for a 7 night package sometime in the next few months, my target destination is Hawaii

Looking online and checking reservations using points, I see hotels still have a charge on top of the point redemption? For example Mauna Kea is showing 270,000 points plus $150/night

I guess I was expecting basically a free stay, or at the very least just having to pay resort fees which seem to average around $30/day, or should I be looking at a lower category hotel?

What you are probably seeing are "upgraded" rooms. For example, they might be ocean view or mountain view or ocean front, or a suite room, etc. You will need to look through the whole list of room options to see if they still have any base standard rooms available for the times you are looking at. If they do, the standard rooms aren't always at the top of the list (hence checking the whole room list.)

Ah thanks! Just to confirm, things such as resort fee's would always be need to be paid extra on top of the points?

Yes and the rate "details" should show all the breakouts.

Wow! Do Marriotts charge resort fees to guests on points?! (Most) Hyatts & Fairmonts don't!

Yes. It can be a killer at a property like The Cosmopolitan to use 45K points per night and then also be expected to pay their $50/night "amenity fee" (resort fee).

When calling in to book a 7 night stay, is it safe to assume if there is no availability for free reward nights online to book, there also won’t be for these 7 night packages?
