Thanks for the help in this thread, Socrates! Speaking of the VIP rate again I found these rules:
Rate Rules
I.D. REQUIRED AT CHECK-IN
Guarantee Policy
A CREDIT CARD NUMBER IS REQUIRED TO CONFIRM/GUARANTEE YOUR RESERVATION
Cancellation Policy
1 NTS RM & TX CXL PENALTY -AS FIRST NIGHT PAYMENT
CANCELLATION PERMITTED
-BEFORE 1800 DAY OF ARRIVAL
Tax Information
TAX 15.025 PCT/ROOM PER NIGHT
Rate Information
V.I.P. ATHLETIC RATE
.
THIS RATE IS OFFERED TO VALID CARD HOLDING MEMBERS OF
MARRIOTT'S V.I.P. ATHLETIC PROGRAM.
.
* VALID VIP CARD AND ID REQUIRED UPON CHECKIN
* CREDIT MUST BE ESTABLISHED AT CHECKIN
* RESTRICTIONS APPLY
* RATE IS SPACE AVAILABLE ONLY AND MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE ON SOLD
OUT, OR ANTICIPATED, SOLD OUT DATES
* LIMIT ONE ROOM PER MEMBER
What is the VIP card? Who can get one and how? I noticed that this was one of the only codes the Springhill Suites (Montreal) would take. The code offers a nice discount.
Also, when I tried PKG there was a rate called "Spa package" that was a few $ higher than the rate I now have. I wonder if they include something extra?

To get a VIP card, you have to be a coach of a school's athletic team. I'm not sure about players.
The SPA packages definitely include extras: spa services!
If you try variations on company abbreviations (just guess!), you can find lots of very low negotiated corporate rates. The hotel may match these rates over the phone. It doesn't hurt to ask. For instance, try FRD for Ford Motor Company, etc. It's surprising how many of these come up as valid.

So, can a Little League coach get a VIP card?
Interesting ideas on cracking new codes! Will the property require proof that we are doing business with say Ford Motor Co?
I just tried FRD on an existing reservation. It took the price down $21. UPS made the price go up $19.
Thanks for the help. This has been a really interesting thread.

It appears as if I could sit and make up codes all day long... Just found the Pepsi Corporation discount... "PEP"
When tested for a Monday reservation in June, the Regular rate is $149.00; the Pepsico rate is $119.00 ( ID required at check-in stated in the rate rules)

It's hit and miss, but "V12" will cut some London rates substantially, add breakfast and a room upgrade.
