Puebla Marriott Real
I spent 2 nights at this FANTASTIC hotel last week, and will be going back there again for another 3 nights in 2 weeks.
I had very low expectations coming in, and the next thing that I knew, I was transported to the South of France, to one of those fancy resorts that I still have fond memories of.
Words cannot describe the beauty, airiness, comfort and luxury of the room that I received (OK, I paid another $30 to be upgraded to a Club room since I needed high speed Internet in my room, but my colleagues told me that there regular rooms are very nice as well).
Each room is quite large, with beautiful teak furniture (I will post pictures next time), large king size bed with fine linen, colorful painting and bedspreads, gorgeous balcony, fantastic marble bathroom with a powerful showerhead. I was totally relaxed walking into my room, which overlooked the fabulous heated swimming pool.
The Club section is separated by a short cobblestoned walk from the main reception area, and it has its own separate check-in, which also houses a fantastic club lounge. If you paid for (or receive the Club upgrade), you can have free superb breakfast, as well as free wine, beer and hors d'oeuvre in the evening there. You can enjoy international newspapers and multiple TV screens.
The entire hotel gives the feeling of being in a luxury resort, and the staff is attentive and extremely friendly. I was told that there are tennis courts on premise, but did not have the time to check them out.
The main lobby is completely open-aired (no AC needed) and as a cigar lover, I was delighted to see a small but nice cigar store, with its humidor stocked by the finest puros from Cuba, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Nicarragua, and of course Mexico.
Their La Fonda restaurant is superb: I had lunch buffet there that was exquisite (too many choices), and a fine dinner with superb wine as well. The frozen margarita made with the Don Julio Reposado tequila was the BEST I have ever had anywhere!
The hotel location is not that great, as it's 15 minutes to downtown Puebla, but it's near my client, so it worked out for me.
Can't wait for my return trip. Highly recommend the upgrade to the Club level.
