Extension for Marriott Platinum

My platinum status is up good until January 2004. If Marriott uses a calendar year to qualify then at December 31, I'll be four days short of re-qualifying for Platinum. Is there any way to obtain a extension for qualify. I have a trip planned for the second week in January that would give me enough days to qualify.

I re-qualified for Platinum for about 12 consecutive years with anywhere from 70-80 nights a year. I wouldn't be surprised to see you classified as Platinum 2004 with a few nights less than required.

How did you manage this?

When I was a few nights short last year, Marriott extended my Plat status as a *one time* courtesy thing...

Call them. They gave it to me last year with 74 nights and I asked about this year as I will only finish with 72 nights and they said to call back once I had 70 nights and they would give it again. 70 nights seems to be the cutoff.

Good Luck.

TxLobo,

Did you have to call or did they just give it to you? If you did call, what did you tell them? Do you tend to stay at full-service properties on stays that generate $$$$?

Sorry for all the questions. I find myself in a similar situation.

Does Marriott have a "stays" qualification? If so, I couldn't find it. I'm goign to cut it close, and thot I may have better luck with stays than nights.

yes, I did have to call them but it was handled very promptly when they realized the number of stays I had the prior year.

I have been working with Brett Cunningham at the MR desk recently and he is great to work with. He should be able to assist you when you need to make that call.

This year and 2 years ago most of my stays were at full service. Last year they were primarily at Fairfields. It goes up and down depending on where my projects take me...

Another voice from one who has had the experience of attaining MR status while being a few nights short. Marriott has difficult plateaus and generally refuses to comp anybody to gold or plat, but is quite lenient when it comes to renewing its own customers.

Note to Cindi89 - Don't hesitate to call them sometime after the first of the year (maybe just after your early January stay posts) and they will surely give you the status. They probably will even if you don't call.

Rather than create a new thread. I didn't make Platinum last year. I think I was only at 55 + nights a year since I dallied into Starwood and also had a local project.

But my latest Feb online status stil shows Platinum. When does the sweep kick in and I get bumped down to Gold?

Just curious.

Thanks in advance.

If you were previously platinum and didn't requalify, you might want to give the platinum desk a call. I was in the same situation and called them. I asked about any promos or challenges to retain platinum status. They quickly offered to reup my status for 2004 by staying 18 nights in a 3 month period.

I missed platinum because of a travel slow down for 4 months and all those free weekend coupons (5 between my wife and myself). The 18 nights shouldn't be a problem now that I am back on the road 2-3 nights per week.

For the future, I hope they continue using points promos rather than the free weekends. This year, I'm hoping to concentrate on using up my collection of Bonus Bucks certificates.

Ok dumb question here, but I've never had to worry about this before..

How do I tell my status for next year.. I know what it SHOULD be but how do I know what they may have given me?

I was plat last year for the 4th straight year.. Last year 2003 I had 42 nights and my Plat card is valid through 2/04? My online statement says this:

Elite Membership Status

Current Level: Platinum

Nights Credited Toward Elite Membership: 0

Additional Nights Needed To Renew: 75

Nights Needed To Achieve Next Level: 0

Does this mean they gave me plat again, or will it change on 3/1/04. I have not rec'd anything in the mail either making me Silver, Gold or Plat for the 2004 CY.

thanks
