Emeritus status, very interesting. Do any other hotel chains offer this and why don't airlines?</font>

I will have the necessary nights for Plat Emeritus long before I have 12 years in the program. However, it will be a while before I earn enough points to get Gold Emeritus.

Just Passing Thru- Thanks. I did recheck with them and to my surprise I had 3.6 million points not the 3.0 mil I thought. My how time flys. Looks like I an some nights short. You have to pass the acid test in all 3 areas. 1) # of nights 2) point total 3) how many times you earned Plat on your own. Throwing them business is not one of them. They could care less. I know I can personally account for over 1/2 mil of directed revenue--a lot of room nights. Mistakenly I thought that would account for something. The Gold was good to go however. I guess I need not bust my #### anymore to steer them meeting, convention, timeshare, and longterm care business.

I called and was told that I have (a) more than 15 years in the program, quite a few (recently) at Plat level, (b) slightly over 700 lifetime nights, but (c) only 1.5 million lifetime points. I must get cheaper rates than some people do! I could ask for lifetime Silver status, but it's not worth much.

In your case, though, it seems like you could score Gold Emeritus in a couple of years, if you only need 100 nights.

"Do any other hotel chains offer this..."
I don't know. I DO know that Marriott was the best, the run-away leader in hotel loyalty programs in the early days, and in this aspect, I've never seen so much as a hint on other forums, although the other programs have succeeded mostly by imitating Marriott's ideas and sometimes (no surprise) improving on them. If there aren't any other programs matching this now, I would expect to see some in the future.
I also DO know that the CSR I talked with about Plat Emeritus said that it was something Marriott Does Not Choose to Publicize.
I mentioned that when I first posted about this, btw. I don't think harrassing people about it helps anyone. Also, if you do call, it's Customer Service that can answer your questions about this, not the res lines.
I also don't see how anyone could "apply" for permanent status. You either have it or not. We've had GEm for ages, but never knew it, for instance, because we've continued to earn regular PM status, so we had no need to know.
JTP, good question to Bruce. But perhaps his answer is like mine, he's not worrying at the moment. He's a spendthrift, of course.

I didn't know there was a Lifetime program for Marriott. I used to be a platinum back in the late 80's early 90's have not really stayed heavily with them since. Saturday in the mail I receive a Marriott Gold card with Lifetime on it! I guess I'll give them some of my business again.

Many Thanks to "ratnamg and just Passing Thru". I too did not know about this program and have been a Marriott memeber since 87 and Platinum since 91. I called the service center and was told I get "lifetime Platinum" status after 33 more stays. Good news indeed and totally unexpected!

Well, I called the service center. I have 264K lifetime points and about 200 nights. I am sure I lost many, many of both over the years due to Courtyard Club being a separate program. I would love to plan to earn Emeritus Gold before I retire.
Anyway, here is where I need advice. I am Gold and stay about 50 nights per year and earn roughly 75K points per year. SO in 12 years I will have the 800 nights but be way short on points. I could transfer Amex MR points, but that is such a waste at 1:1 when they xfer to Hilton at 2:1 or even 2.3:1 during a CO 15% promo. And the Marriott Visa card isn't even competitive when it only gives you a point per $ when the HH AMex gives 3 and the *wood Amex gives 1:1 in a currency worth 3 times as much.
Any bright ideas are most welcome.
