Marriott Travel Package Help

I am sure this was discussed before, but I could not find it doing a search and also with recent changes thought good time to clarify.

Here is the situation.
I need some Airline miles now.
If I do one of the travel packages, and decide not to use the hotel part, can I return it to Marriott?
If so, how much do they credit you account for?
So if I did a Cat 5 Travel package for 70K miles at 185K and returned the hotel certificate, Would they credit back 115K?

They'll give you 45,000 back? This seems pretty high since the cost to get 75,000 miles via Air mileage rewards would be 215,000 points.
Course the travel rewards make air mileage rewards on there own ridiculously high.

Instead of returning it, sell the hotel cert on ebay. You are able to transfer them legally to another person. You can't tell Marriott, that you selling, but you can "gift" them to anyone. I've seen them go for a min of $1200 to a high of $1700.

Regards.

They need to be in the name of the person checking-in. I believe you can have the cert tranfered/changed to another person's name after the fact.
