Temporary Platinum Promotion?

Temporary Platinum Promotion?
I am only a MR Silver, but twice in the last week, at checkin, I was told that in appreciation....I was being upgraded to Platinum for this particular stay and given lounge access and platinum amenity. I thought this was pretty odd, since even though I have had quite a few Marriott stays lately, I still won't even make gold this year. Anyone else experience this? Have I just been lucky?
