Redepositing an award

What is the proper/recommended procedure?

A month or so ago I called the platinum number & asked what I needed to do to redeposit an unused winter pointsaver. I was instructed to fax it in with a note explaining that I wanted it redeposited.

So far no activity on my account to suggest that anything has been done...

What is my next step?

They charge $20 for redeposits and you have to send them the original certificate-- at least that's what I had to do.

Who did you have to contact to get this done?

If you are an elite member you may also want to login to Marriott Rewards and check the section called "Elite Membership Status", mine now lists a toll free number for my Silver elite status. Sorry, I can not post it here (it would not be fair to everyone else).

I was also told that there was no longer a redeposit fee for Marriott certificates (not partner certificates) returned or reissued, started earlier this year. I can not confirm, as the last time I returned a certificate is was in 2002.

Just call, get the reps name and send the certificate by mail to their attention. My points last year posted in ~ 2 weeks.

just to confirm the previous poster. i just called to redeposit a winter save reward. the rep went ahead and put the points back right away and asked me to send the reward to his attention at their center in salt lake. very professional rep and no faxing required. i am a platinum but i didn't get the impression that it mattered. very easy.

I dont know the official policy.

But I had recently cancelled an award and sent an email asking how it was done. A nice rep in Marriott told me to just mail it in to her attention. I did and it was redeposited - no fee.

If it is an e-cert, then even as a Gold I didn't have to pay any redeposit fee. In fact, I didn't even have to talk to anyone. I made the reservations online and cancelled it online and the points were automatically redeposited.

If you have a paper certificate, in general Plats don't have to pay the redeposit fee. Back when I was a Plat, I probably returned 3 or 4 award certs and never had to pay. I haven't had to redeposit a cert as a Gold though, so I don't know if it was a "Plat" benefit or a general "elite" benefit.

Award e-cert redeposit for Gold

There is no charge for MR Golds, also. I have had an instance where an award stay scheduled for 11 nights was partially redeposited after a two day stay. I couldn't do it but the person who was staying at the hotel could do it during check out and put the remaining points back into my account. Other instances where the award was completely cancelled and redeposited without any fee.
