Lisbon
A few nights last week at this new to Marriott hotel (formerly the Lisbon Penta).
Extensive renovation of the smallish rooms mostly finished although not many (if any) of the suites are ready for occupancy. The concierge lounge is also not ready and the construction noises, especially on the higher floors (the executive levels, of course), can drive you batty if you try to use your room during the workday.
The lobby is finished but the other public areas are being worked on and I do not know if any of the meeting rooms are usable.
If you are a Marriott Elite, they will bend over backwards to try to make you comfortable. Since there is no club, you will be given carte blanche at breakfast with no charge and each evening you will find a very nice fruit basket and litre of water in the room. Therefore if you go there in the next few months, be sure to ask for the introductory rate without breakfast.
This will be a really nice place when they have finished working on it (my guess is the end of March).

Does anyone have any updates to monitor's review of the Lisbon Marriott? I will be staying there at the end of July. I'm only a silver with Marriott...can I expect any preferential treatment? Would it be better to stay at a hotel on the coast Cascais? Most booking sites all show the 84Euro summer special rate for the Marriott. Any other hotel recommendations for a vacationing couple in Lisbon or would Marriott be worthwhile.
Thanks in advance,

We just came back from a trip to Portugal. We stayed in a hotel near the Baixa in Lisbon, close to all the sights. Not sure where the Marriott is located though. The Tivoli chain has nice hotels but they are pricey.

Does anyone have any updates? Is the lounge open on weekends?

The hotel is wonderful!!!
I can't answer about the lounge, since I didn't see it, but my experience was very positive.
I arrived about 10 PM coming in from Cape Verde, and had to depart on a flight to Frankfurt that left LIS about 0700. I asked at the desk when I should plan to get up to make that flight. They explained that the airport is only 10 minutes away, cabs are plentiful, and check-in easy at that hour, so departing from the hotel 90 minutes before the flight was more than sufficient.
I noted that that meant getting up about 0430 to dress and pack, and mused that I'd have to miss breakfast since the restaurant wasn't open at that hour. "Oh," said the lady at the front desk, "Would you like us to have room service deliver breakfast at 5 AM? No charge."
Wow! All that and the Platinum amenity (I chose the red wine), too. What a great hotel!
(And yes, I caught the plane with plenty of time to spare.)
