Cash upgrade
If I'm paying with points but upgrading with cash, does that count as an elite night? I know reward nights don't, but I AM paying out of pocket as well, so the Marriott site is unclear - unless I'm just missing something.

this question has been responded to many times before
that being said, in response to your question, NO, you are not going to get a stay credit, however you are entitled to points on the cash portion............

While BKKLEE can be rude
, I didn't really take his response on this one that way. The question has come up before & he did provide the information you requested.
BTW - search works somewhat wonky on FT. Sometimes it brings up the info & sometimes it doesn't. Heck, I've done searches on threads I created when I need to go back & get some info & it doesn't bring them up, which is quite irritating. But sometimes people don't bother w/ a search & just ask the question because they don't want to take the time to do the search, yet want others to take their time to respond. I see both sides on this one.
Years ago (when I was a Silver), I stayed at Grosvenor Square (not to be confused w/ Grosvenor House). GS 'upsells' upgrades for non-elites. I took them up on it and did get points for the upgrade fee, but did not get night credit.
Cheers.

Hilton still counts award nights towards elite status as does SPG now. IHG does not, I believe, but Club Carlson is the only one I know of where a cash and points stay earns points and therefore is qualifying for promotional purposes and consequently also counts toward status.
Whether it is worthwhile in having such status in CC is prolematic, but there you have it.
