I have stayed at this Marriott several times. It's very nice, the JW steakhouse was excellent. The lobby bar was always crowded, but there is a nice Cigar bar on the 3rd floor (if memory serves) that was always more my style.
When I was there, the lounge was closed...completely. They claimed it was for renevations, but this was soon after 9/11 and I had my doubts. I always got the upgrade as well....
Regardless, it was a very nice property right on the miracle mile. It gets my reccomendation.

If you are refering to the one at 540 North Michgan ...
I have stayed there a few times and can safely say that it's one of the best Marriott's I have ever stayed at as far as staff is concerned.
Also great great lobby - a realy buzz!

I stay there 1/2 a dozen times a year.
It is a nice property. I enjoy the view. Good staff. Right on Mich ave.
Last time I was there on a weekend the club was not open. I will be there next week so can check if you like.
Only downside is that I rarely get a Plat upgrade.
I have switched some of my stays to the
Fairfield Inn & Suites Chicago Downtown
216 East Ontario Street
Chicago, IL 60611
It is new and a lot less expensive.

Front desk told me club is not open this weekend.
I did not get a Plat upgrade. No NS/Kings were available. Offered me NS/2*Double. They did move me to a high floor with a lake view.
Hotel was very responsive to my request for foam pillows (I am allergic to feathers). Manager called me to verify they had arrived and to ask if there was anything else I needed.
