I booked my 78-year-old dad a $32 room at the Anaheim Marriott so he could spend more time at a religious convention. I put in my Marriott number, hoping they'd treat him a little better. DID THEY EVER! We should call this Grandpa's Excellent Adventure. I stayed there last summer for $99 in a second floor room facing the parking lot. They put Dad in an ocean view room on the 18th floor next to the lounge which he great enjoyed. And when they accidentally put someone else's $400 bill under his door, they were so embarrassed they comped his parking. I haven't stayed at a Marriott since I was recently upgraded to silver, but this seems amazing! According to his bill, I'm even getting points for the parking he didn't pay for.

No. It's not a typical upgrade for Silver, especially if he was in fact at the Anaheim Hilton... Also, if he saw the ocean from his room, you should talk to his doctor about the drugs he's on.

Come on you folks, if you were 78, do you want others telling you, that you are not seeing the Ocean?

Most of my stays are at Courtyards and Springhills, where one does not get upgrades anyway. But at the Renaissance Concourse (ATL), I usually get, not a full upgrade to club level, but a lesser upgrade to a runway view.

Gosh, folks, no respect for elders! Just got back from Anaheim with littleleagueson, did not see any water except the Rivers of America at Disneyland and Paradise Pier Lagoon at California Adventure. Still, Dad did say the faith healer at the convention center performed lots of miracles. His upgrade sounds like a miracle, too.

I'm certain your Dad's room overlooked the newly refurbished indoor/outdoor pool at the Marriott Anaheim, and possibly that accounts for the confusion over the water view! I stayed there in August, also on the Concierge level, a few doors down, apparently, from your Dad's room, and I can confirm that it was a pool and not an ocean.

By the way, the hotel staff was wonderful there, especially Georgianne in the Concierge lounge. She treated my children as if they were her own, bringing them coloring books, special Marriott treats, and delivering warm, fresh baked cookies to our room after our long day in the Disneyland Parks. (I made sure, as always, to write a very complimentary letter to both the hotel manager and Marriott corporate to let them know how great the staff was.) I was thrilled to get this hotel for $99, and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. I'd love to know how you got it for $32, with an upgrade no less!

Forgot to say I booked it through Priceline with the $5 bonus so PL actually paid $37. They were happy to add the MR number when I called. Alas, bonus money is no longer available since 1/1 so the $32 Marriott rooms may be gone forever. Agree the staff was wonderful when I stayed there for $99...with my parking lot view.

As a Silver, I've occaisionally gotten upgraded to the Club level (at least at the Atlanta Renaissance)-- I think it depends on how full the property is and how nice the desk clerk wants to be

I'm going to email them right now and thank them for his excellent adventure. Dad is a very handsome and charming fellow (as usual he attracted a bevy of widows at the convention center), so maybe that helped, too.
