Rewards Cert Ordering Glitch - Double Check the Award Code
Just wanted to let everyone know about a bug I found on the marriott website that I encountered when trying to make an award reservation that could result in you ordering the incorrect certificate for a reservation.
I followed all of the website directions as they relate to making this type of res. First, check availability and make the reservation, making sure that you indicate that this will be paid for with an award. The hotel that I was interested in (Paris, France), does not have award inventory available for my selected dates, so I ended up finding availability at the Neuilly Courtyard (using the view alternate locations link on the page that told me that the room was unavailable). The important point here is that the Paris Marriott is a category 7 hotel, while the Courtyard is category 5.
After making the reservation, you are prompted to order your award certificate. What the site does is automatically populate the award code field with the award that is required for your stay. In my case, this should have been a 035 award (three days at a category 5 hotel). However, the site automatically populated a 037 award (three days at a category 7 hotel, my original choice).
If I hadn't noticed this, I would have been out 25,000 points!
Oh well, at least I noticed.
