Made Reservation with Wrong MR number

Has this happened to anyone else?? I made a reservation for the Courtyard in Brighton, MI giving them what I thought was my MR number. Got the room, when I mention Non-Smoking, she said that she sees that off my profile. Got a confirmation number. I called back later to add promotion code TFB for the free breakfest buffet using the confirmation number and no problem there. When I went to check my MR account on the website with the MR number I thought was mine, I got a message that the name and account number doesn't match. So I called Customer Service and it turns out that the MR number I thought was mine really wasn't. I had reserved a room with someone elses MR number and even was able to add a promotion code. Wonder what would have happened if something came up and I couldn't make it and forgot to cancel? Would the other person have been charged. How would he prove that he didn't make the reservation? Is this a good example of not having a credit card on file??

On the other hand, Customer Service was really helpful and we even had a laugh about it. She call the Courtyard and straighten it all out.
