LACK OF GOOD PROMOS.
Is it just my imagination or has Marriott totally lost it re: valuable promotions.
The only promo. so far this year sucked in my opinion - 15 nights = 15000 pts.
Not to mention as a PLT member I never did receive the Winter 2001 Elite offers book.
Meanwhile, over at Hilton I got 50K (1/2 of what is needed for 6 free nights in Hawaii) points for just 4 stays..(i.e. 4 nights).
Do the math..Marriott just isn't what it used to be.

I have the same gripe with Marriott. I decided to bypass the 5000 pt bonus and instead go for the 500 pts/night at select Starwood properties.

I agree completely. Their difficult to hit promos turned me other directions. I don't want 1 million points per stay, but I also don't want to have to stay 365 nights a year to get 10,000 points.
Not only are the earning opportunities tough to find, they are making some of the best destinations into vacaton club properties which greatly reduces the availability of rooms.
I imagine I could stay the required nights for the big bonus and stay at the Omaha Fairfield if I wanted to, but it's not real high on my list of 'must sees.'

Maybe my situation is unique but I am happy with the number of points from Marriot.
The down side to lots of promotions is that it will cause Marriott to have to raise points needed for a stay. I stay 30-50 nights a year at Marriott and always have recieved enough points to get free rooms when I want them. I would much rather Marriott limit the number of promos and continue to keep point levels the same, then to give everyone 50K points for breathing near a Marriot and cause the point levels to go up by 100K each.

That is a good point. Again, I don't want a million points for one stay.
What I would like is the occasional bonus like Hyatt does: 2000 bonus points in select hotels or something like that. With Hyatt, I can usually pick up around 10k in bonuses just by happening to stay at a property with a 1k to 2k point bonus.

If the economy has reduced the number of travelers, we can expect to have out mailboxes filled with special offers like the 1990's. Success spoiled Marriott in the late 90's. Their arrogence should be dissolving about now.

Did you miss the double points for using Visa promotion last year? That was amazing.
