Room Guarentee

Has anyone used the Platinum room guarentee? If so how does it work?

I know it says unless there is a special event? Do they define special event? or do they just say anytime its sold out its a special event?

I want to use the Minneapolis Marriott during the final four late march. If they won't guarantee me, will they put me on a wait list?

Not sure about the event question, but I have observed that Marriott will charge the highest room rate available, and not any corporate negotiated rate for purposes of this guarantee.

There are some special events for which the platinum override will not work. For example, this week (Tu, Wed) in Atlanta, there are no rooms to be had at the Marriott Marquis - even for platinums.
