Got my offer today. Its for 10,000 points for 6 nights (Dec 15 to Mar 31). I have about 20 stays and 30 nights at Marriott in 1999, two were at Courtyard, all the rest were at Marriott Hotels/Resorts or Renaissance Hotels.

After reading all of the previous posts, I went back & did some checking. I've had 37 total nights in '99 as follows:

7 CY stays
2 regular Marriott stays
2 RI stays
1 TPS stay

I'm a CY Club (basic) & Rewards (basic), no elite status.

I'd love to see the algorithm they used to figure this one out...

shadow: The algorithm uses partial differential equations and some cherry sauce from the breakfast buffet.

So far this year: 4 stays / 9 nights, that I can think of, both MR and CY, and no card yet. (But bulk mail takes forever to get to NYC.) You'd think I'd be prime fodder for this deal.

Or perhaps they are using a random number generator!

I've got lots of stays (25-30) but they are mostly in the first half of the year and am in the Black to Gold downgrade mode.

And recall that they use a "funny" off calendar rolling year for qualifications, FWIW!

I feel insulted. I was only offered 5K for 10 nights and they called it a megabonus. Was anyone offered less?

6 nights for a 10K point "MegaBonus." Even though the 40K bonus for 18 stays is more generous @ 2,222 bonus per night, I will realisticaly only stay about 6 nights, so this bonus is perfect for me.

The mailer says "Just stay X nights at any of more than 1,700 participating Marriot hotels worldwide." The mailer used the words "Marriot hotels" instead of "properties" as they do when Marriot does generic advertising for all of its brands. Does this mean only Marriot hotels count, and stays at Courtyard etc don't? How many Marriot "hotels" are there worldwide? Is the 1,700 locations inclusive of all Marriot brands?

I got the 40k postcard today. I suspect the assumption above is correct, regarding size of bonus correlating with number of previous stays. During 1998 I had 75+ and during 1999 I had 75+ nights at a full Marriott. So they must think it'll be easy for me to come up with 18 nights in the next 3 months - unfortunately I'm now stuck on a local client. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

All I got today was bills!

I just stayed one night in the CY in Bakersfield, CA. I told the gal at the counter that I would like to join the Courtyard Club. She told me that the program is no longer in effect and has been rolled into the Marriott Rewards program.

I turned on the laptop 3 times to check email and surf and was not charged for any calls and I did get a free USA Today at my door.

Hopefully I will have a nice stay at the RI in Bakersfield for the next 6 months!

That's interesting about the CY Club...there hasn't been any info about it being disbanded that I've seen. And I'm only 2 stays away from a free night; wonder what happens with that?

Just got off the phone with Marriott Rewards CSR...here's the scoop:

Courtyard Club had been temporarily suspended, pending a revision to the program.
Current CY Club members will still continue to accrue points & stays towards free nights, but no new CY Club members will be signed up during this period.

Sometime in early 2000, a NEW program will be introduced with additional benefits and perks.

I got the skimpy 3000 points for 3 nights mailer (I have probably 3-4 Marriott family hotel stays in a typical year, mostly at Courtyard).

It has the same 1700 participating Marriott language..but later on says "It doesn't matter which Marriott brand you choose or what rate you pay. So, whether you stay at a downtown Marriott for business, an out-of-town Courtyard for a family reunion.."

So it implies that all brands are included, at least for my particular mailer..

Exact same wording on mine, George...and mine was 10K for 10 nights.

My deal was 35K for 15 nights from 12/15 to
sometime in March.

I threw the thing away.
