Marriott disappointments

What is PAWS UP with Marriott is that the hotels are consistant and clean and the staff mostly friendly and helpful.. you know what you are going to get.

Now here are a few {b] NIT PICKS that give Marriott PAWS DON"T [/b]

SLOW IF ANY RESPONSES FROM E-MAILS I asked about the Marriott Rewards/Visa double point program ("Why my first stay not doubled when I make my second stay") in one e-mail. The second asked when the Courtyard by Marriott Jersey City was opening (if before June 30 I'll stay there dor double points.) It's been a week plus and no response.

The second I mentioned above and will say again: disappointed that the FIRST STAY in the Marriott Rewards/Visa Double Point program is NOT DOUBLED. It's disappointing IMHO since I went out of my way to stay at this particular hotel, a bit more pricey, hoping to get the double points. ALAS, NONE!

It's a great company and a good hotel program. Just not FOUR PAWS UP.

Ok, your turn

For all of Marriott's good service, handling email is not an area where they shine.

However, I another do have another contact for them. The number for their guest relations is 1-800-535-4028. The folks there are very friendly and quite good at getting information and solving problems. The number is not widely published and I only got it when their property in Rome lost my reservation. They did a tremendous job in resolving that problem.

I'm generally happy with Marriott; especially the Marriott and Renaissance brands. Currently, I am currently staying at the Marriott in Napa (some many wineries, so little time) on vacation. This one even has the new high-speed access.

The only real downside that I have noticed is that their pricing, in general, seems to have take a rather big jump in the last 18 months. Perhaps it is the economy.

I am sorry for you Catman but I think they posted their rules clearly, saying that you get double miles for your second (and the following stays) only.

I did receive yesterday a Marriott email saying, that I should have received the new rules and membership card by now - but I haven't ... if it is sent from the US then I expect it somewhen in august 2000

I wonder what my new membership level will be (so far Marriott Marquis Gold with 'only' just above 15 stays per 12 months)?

Catman, I've had similar experiences with the Rewards website...never received a response to one email and they were s-l-o-w replying to the other, I agree they could do much better. But they don't really deserve a "paws down" because you misunderstood the terms of the promotion, do they? As the offer was explained you do begin earning DOUBLE POINTS with your second VISA-paid stay.

Which pricey hotel did you stay at anyway? I've got a 2-night stay booked at the San Diego (marina area) hotel coming up. For what they're charging there now, hope an upgrade comes my way to justify the cost!

BTW, love reading your cat-tales. Mine's 14 now and I miss her antics

SPort-

I certainly hope your upgrade comes through. It is one of my favorite Marriotts. The C-Lounge is a great place with yummy hot-n-cold munchies, a nice world class view complete with telescope and 20 lb copy of Janes Fighting Ships in case you need to identify the passing fleet, at least it was that way a year ago. Swimming pool below is usually well stocked too.

Rudi, you and everyone else are correct.

Although this seems like an odd promotion, why not just let EVERY stay count???

Much simplier for people who try to read too much into rules like myself.

Overall, Marriott Rewards is a good program, the hotels are better.

Well I'vecommented on Marriott's failure to answer my correspondence previously - so I won't again!

I have stayed at the Marriott Marina in San Diego. I enjoyed my stay there. Walking distance to the convention center, seaport village and gaslamp quarter. Enjoy your stay.

Thank you Marriott, a very fast response to my email, asking for VISA bonus points:

Subject: RE: Customer Service Request, missing VISA double
Date: Tue, 13 Jun 2000 11:50:24 -0400
From: Bonuses Promotions <[email protected]>
To: 'Rudi Martel' <[email protected]>

Dear Mr. Martel:

Thank you for contacting our Guest Services Center concerning the VISA Daily Double Promotion.

Upon reviewing your account for the stays in question I found that your stays had no payment method entered. I have modified your stays by adding VISA as your form of payment. The adjustments will be reflected on your account within 24-48 hours and online viewable in approximately 3-4 weeks. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Sincerely,

Terri Ann Mueller

I had a similar situation where visa bonus did not post. I called instead and the lady asked me to fax the receipt to her since her records showed payment by Diners Club (wrong). I faxed it, and in 48 hours the bonus was on my online account statement too.
