points for restaurant dining without a stay?

Hi all,

I am wondering if it is possible to earn rewards points when dining at Marriott hotel restaurants but not actually staying there that night? Has anyone tried/done this?

Thanks for any info you can share.

if they give you a temporary (imaginary) room number for a 'day-stay' and you put all charges on that one you might be succesful. When I hosted some Rum-people (in 98) at the San Juan P.R. Marriott I did that and was given points.

This would be great as there is a Marriott 10 minutes from my place which serves a great Sunday brunch, and they often have 2-for-1 coupons which makes it a good deal too. Still, seems like a lot of trouble to get a couple of hundred points.

Marriott should just do a dining program thing like the airlines do. At the very least encompass all their hotel restaurants, and then add more as appropriate.

Try this simple but not very well known deal. Get out an AARP card and enclose it with the bill. You should save 10-25% (I forget the exact amount) off the total food bill ( usually not the booze bill but it sometimes happens).

Points are nice but CASH IS KING!!

points for dining without staying?

Can you get Marriott points just for eating in their restaurants even if you're not staying in the hotel?

I'm not so sure about that. IF you have the Marriott Visa and you eat at one of their restautants, it MAY come in at the 3 point/$ split instead of the 1point/$ split.

Anyone know for sure, as I have abandoned my Marriott Visa for a No Fee Hilton Visa.

Credits for restaurant?

We have a Marriott just next to our office and I eat there quite often. Is it possible to get Reward Points on a restaurant bill even if I am not staying at the hotel, just eating there?

Couldn't find it on the website and did a search here with no luck...

I don't think you can earn points directly to your MR account unless it's charged to a room. An option might be to get a FirstUSA/BankOne MR Visa card which would earn 3 MR points per charge @ Marriott.

Snoopy,

There is a way. You need to be buddy/buddy enough with the hotel GM to get him to set up a house account. About once a quarter close the house account and have them send in the points.

It works for me

Thanks for the information. I'll see what I can do, but to be honest they aren't that friendly there, so I don't know whether the GM will go for it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, I guess.

Dining At Marriotts for pts?

If I have a nice dinner at the View in NYC (Marriott Marquis's Restaurant), do I get 10 pt per dollar plus elite bonus like Starwood does? Or basically only Chase's 5x pt per dollar and no pts from Marriott?

You only get points if you are a registered guest at the hotel.

By the way, I personally thought the restaurant was poorly staffed and the food mediocre at best. Only redeeming quality was the view. Frankly, I haven't heard anyone with a much better experience.

(The View used to offer a hors d'oeurves and dessert menu for about $25...not sure if they still have that offering. Might have better luck with that than the dinner.)
