Jamaica
I recently read that Marriott will open in Jamaica in 1999. Does anyone know when and where?

www.marriott.com will (probably) inform first - unless you have inside-information-possibilities from Marriott.

Renaissance Jamaica Grande (belongs to the Marriott Group). PO Box 100, Ocho Rios, Jamaica 876-974-2201, Fax: (809) 974-2289
Ocho Rios Jamaica - an island of intoxicating natural beauty, from lush rainforests and mountainous terrain, to spectacular waterfalls and beautiful beaches. A haven for nature-lovers, Jamaica is also a paradise for fun-seekers. No resort on the island puts the two together more dynamically than the Jamaica Grande. Here, guests enjoy the excitement and grandeur of Jamaica's most complete resort, offering a choice of all-inclusive or European-style plans. Located within walking distance of Ocho Rios, the 720-room Jamaica Grande provides guests with the best of both worlds. There's the world of duty-free shopping and excellent sightseeing such as Dunn's River Falls and a colorful straw market. Then there's the Jamaica Grande, where everything for the vacation of a lifetime is right at your doorstep. (from the Marriott homepage)

when I last checked with Marriott, the Renaissaince in Jamaica was not yet part of the program. According to the customer service person, they were trying to work out the compensation rates. Hopefully they have resolved this issue. I have stayed at this resort on two separate occasssion and had the time of my life.

I got the impression that all Renaissance hotels participated in the Marriott rewards program in cluding the one in Jamaica?
The Jamaica Grande has been in Ocho Rios for about the last 5-6 years. Where did you see this information that a Marriott hotel was to open in Jamaica in 1999? I thought I saw something about a Ritz Carlton opening up in Montego Bay?

I just got back from Jamaica and while there I visited the Ritz property. Construction is well on the way. The Ritz is on its own private beach and they are also building a Golf course right across the street.
