Switching between Miles and Rewards

From what Marriott says/writes: I can Switch whenever I want - just by telling them befor. And what I learned - for long stays (more than $350 charges) Rewards pay better, for short stays it's Miles (500/stay plus 2'500 per 5 stays).

Problem: my last stay (I want that one with miles) I am not credited yet (it was just 3 days ago), and my next stay is in 5 days (that one I want to be booked als Rewards).

Question: if I switch befor the last stay is credited, do I risk that the old one will be booked as rewards instead of miles? Do you have any practical experience?

one more reason why I (have to) switch from Miles to Rewards (and later back): some places (Ritz, Renaissance) are only crediting Rewards.

Rudi, as you suggest, Rewards are better for longer stays. My analysis indicates that for stays of 3 days or longer you are better off with Rewards. This is calculated strictly from a $ perspective with no preference to how you intend to use the award (free flights vs. free hotel stays). As far as switching, I've had problems with Marriott in the past. It seems that the computer system does not keep up to date with your preference! I would make it absolutely clear to whoever you talk to at Guest Services AND the front desk when you check in, which one (miles/rewards) that you want!

good e-mail-news from Marriott: "[email protected] wrote: Dear Rudi If you would like to switch between the two programs when you stay, just tell the front desk when you check in which you would like to receive for the stay, they can credit either to your account. Thanks Jodie James. Date:7/15/98 5:33 PM".

I hope it works that way and I will carry a print-out of this e-mail with me for next stays. Thank you Marriott.
