I have heard from a CSR that nights don't necessarily get reported up correctly from the properties (because the properties don't do it right). This is probably more of a concern around paying with Visa during the Fall Megabonus, but you may want to contact the Rewards folks if you're seeing the points for the stay post, but not the promo credit.

I'm at 18 nights because my stay was from Jan 23 - Feb 10.

I got my promo changed so that I can't even see my progress
The worst is that my certs won't be in my account till the promo is finished.

Nacho, I did not see that you had already responded to the CAT4 expiration inquiry. If u need to use your earned CAT4 certs prior to the end of the Megabonus promo, I think a call to MR could do the trick. I will have more than six stays during this promo, so I called and requested the third CAT4 cert that is usually given to plats, rep noted the act and told me the third cert would be creditted at the end of the promo but if I need it before that, I could call them.
I plan to use all three certs on an upcoming trip to Asia next month

I'm set up for the 20 nights promo but I'm not going to be near that amount as my work travel has slowed down considerably. Can I still change it now? I'm at 2 stays for the promo but I'll prob get 4.

Per T&C:
"Marriott Rewards members who register for this promotion by March 31, 2012, will earn 35,000 bonus points after 20 paid nights plus an additional 15,000 bonus points after 25 paid nights up to a maximum of 50,000 bonus points between February 1, 2012, and April 30, 2012, at participating Marriott properties." Ah yes. There are many different versions of the MegaBonus promo and in re reading the OP's original post he is asking about 'nights' not stays. So the OP is apparently on a nights version of the promo not a stay version.
Not matter how many consecutive nights at same hotel, it still equals 1 stay. However, it makes no difference to the OP how many stays if he is on one of the nights versions of this promo.

However, I would not depend on that scenario. Better safe than sorry. At least make the call so you accounted can be noted that you will not meet your promo and are requesting the change.

I understood the terms to say that all nights in a stay would count if at least one night fell within the promo period, but alas it didn't work that way for me.

I would give Marriott a call to have your points adjusted.
If I check in before February 1, 2012, or check out after April 30, 2012, do I still earn credit for that stay?
As long as one (1) eligible night occurs during the eligibility earning window (February 1, 2012 April 30, 2012) a member would earn a credit for that stay.
A 'stay' is defined as consecutive nights spent at the same hotel, regardless of check-in/check-out activity.
