Question on using Marriott points?

I am still learning so much on FT about all the points and how to use them. Thanks for all your help and information. One question I have now is about changing from earning points, which is what I am earning now, to miles. Can you switch back and forth? What happens to the points I have now if I switch? Also I am wondering if I use points for the pkg, hotel and airfare, and need to cancel, what happens to the miles and points? I saw somewhere that if they are moved to the airline they are gone. Someone on here said sometime they stack with like a Delta promotion. I am wondering last time they had a Delta promotion could you move in some miles from your Marriott account and Delta will match them? I know I ask alot of questions but I want to learn how to get the biggest bang for my buck. That is why I am on FT. Thanks so much!! And Happy New Year! I am trying to plan my next vacation.

You should be able to switch any time you want, without losing points. This is especially handy around megabonus offers time because, if you are going to have lots of stays, you can complete one megabonus on points, and then switch to miles and earn that way too (if you get both offers).

As to your second question - once you move points to an airline mileage program they are non-refundable.

May I ask why you plan on earning miles? Unless you have some secondary reason (i.e. desperate need for miles, a promotion with the airline, etc.) the miles can be an unfavorable deal compared to points, but everybody's situation is different. It is worth some hard analysis before moving though.

jgottlieb that is a great plan. I thought one offer may be going on and I would not miss anything.

DillMan I thought I read that the airline points are not refundable after they move them. Thanks for the info.

DillMan, The megamiles Promo is going on in January and there Mega Bonus does not start until Feb. 1, 2012. So, the megamiles can be very useful and better than collecting points in January or even after if someone is interested in collecting miles.

I am doing January megamiles and then switching Feb.1 when the points promo starts. This seems more favorable if you use one of the participating airlines for that megamiles promo.
