help a newbee?

I am going to join the Marriott rewards program and need some help. I heard there is a referral bonus so first one to PM me with a link or their info to sign up, I will use it.( EDIT: Got a referral, thanks)
I saw on this thread that there was a gold offer for signing up through a msbc (sp?) promo, but I cant get that link to work. Is that offer still good or are they being strict about it being a targeted offer?
I will be staying at the worthington rennesance(sp?) Fort Worth for a long weekend in July and want to start earning points or miles. I noticed a megabonus 25k offer for that hotel on milesmaven but it also has a non working link. Is this promo still on?
I doubt I would get close to enough points in 2 years to do anything with unless I get the CC or hit a megabonus like that....should I just go for the 2 point/$ airline bonus or are the marriott points good for any other uses/ transfers?

I'd suggest contacting Marriott Guest Services and ask them what your options might be regarding the megabonus, as well as get clarification about your other questions.

I would think that my last question would be better answered by the people on this thread. I know most of you probably use the points for high priced rooms somewhere and your status helps make your stays even better. For someone who would not earn 50k, and has no status, what would be the best use of these points?
Am i better off just getting the airline bonus, or is there a good alternative use for them. (example: can they be used for rental cars or something else at an exceptional, or even average, redemption rate?) or are they just used for marriott room redemptions by everyone?
