The PP desk will sometimes give compensation if a problem requires a PP member to escalate for a solution. In the OP's case, I would expect 5-10,000 points if compensation is offered. One PP member on FT once got 70,000 points when a hotel did not honor the 20 % dining discount for PP members in North America at FS hotels (excluding resorts). That seemed rather rich to me, but Marriott's representatives have leeway with regards to giving compensation.
I have only been offered compensation once as a PP, although I have reported a few problems with the intent to prevent future problems from occurring again (repeated platinum amenity not posting at one hotel & the failure of the reservation agent on the platinum line [PP reservations was closed on weekend] to mention that the package associated with the room rate was changing).
