Redeeming Points with Sky Mall - Issue
Hi All,
Ive used Marriott Rewards to purchase items in the past and it's always been great. The first time I did this, I used the name my own reward option. I filled out the form, got a call with a quote the next day, and 4 days later the item arrived and I was happy. Second time, I ordered something from the catalog, it arrived, shipped direct from the manufacturer, not a fulfillment company, and sadly it was broken. After unsuccessfully dealing with the manufacturer directly, I called MR Sky Mall, and they dealt with the vendor, got the item picked up, and credited my points back. They were great to work with and very helpful.
So I expected everything to be great again, but I was disappointed.
This time I ordered a Sony SLR Camera Kit (Camera, Lens, etc.). I verified it was in stock before I ordered it, they told me it would arrive this Friday. All was looking good, I even ordered a memory card from the web. Suddenly out of the blue today, I am told that their vendor MAS, Inc. has the item back ordered and it won't ship for close to 3 weeks. I was quite upset by this. The camera is in stock elsewhere, and in fact Sony has it on sale for $150 less than Sky Mall (Sky Mall still lists it instock). I ordered it two weeks ago because I was hoping to have it for our Anniversary.
I e-mailed them back and mentioned that Sony has it available, that its on sale, that I confirmed it was in stock before I ordered it, and that I was even given a confirmed arrival date after I ordered. I then asked that if their vendor MAS, Inc. can fulfill it, perhaps they order it from Sony direly.
I got a reply to my e-mail stating it will take at least 8 to 14 business days to process my order and "it will not be the same point amount as on the website." And that they will see what they can do and get back to me in 4 to 7 business days.
I am just quite shocked that they can't get something they confirmed was in stock in advance, and that it will now cost a different amount of points? I hope they mean it will be a different amount to get it from Sony, preferably less since Sony has it for less. However I fear that they mean my original order will be more.
Has anyone else experienced something like this? What did you do? I am quite frustrated, and now after hearing that Sky Mall is outsourcing their order fulfillment to some company called MAS, Inc. I am worried it won't even be the right camera, perhaps a refurbished model instead.
