Changing earning preference mid-trip

I'm on a company-sponsored two week trip, staying at a Marriott. I'm not a frequent hotel-guest, so I've always had my Marriott Rewards earnings set to Southwest Rapid Rewards credit/points for the rare occasion I do have a stay, which generally lasts no more than one or two nights.

I suddenly realized that on this trip, that makes absolutely zero sense. With earnings set to SW RR, I'll earn a whopping 600 SWRR points for this 12 night stay. With earnings set to Marriott Rewards, I'd earn well over the 10000 MR points needed to covert to 2000 SWRR points. So with that in mind, I just now made the switch in my profile on marriott.com

Will this actually work, though? Given that I made my earnings preference change in the middle of an actual stay, what points will I earn after I check out? The points that my profile was set to when the reservation was made and the stay began? Or the points that my profile is set to when the stay ends and the balance is charged?

Thanks for your insights,
Paul

doesn't hurt to try! The one time I attempted this it did not work. I'd probably call in instead of trying to do it online.

I finished my Air China Gold promotion on the 30th of March and according to the terms and conditions i had to keep my account on miles until the promotion was completed.

The problem was that i had another stay on the 2nd of April and since i won't use Air China in the future, i wanted to accumulate points for the stay. Being afraid that if i changed my earning preferences to points before the first stay was posted, i would get points for it too, i kept the miles option until i completed both stays.

As soon as my first stay was posted on my account (and before the second stay was posted), i changed my preference to points and got points for the second stay. I called the MR line to make sure they give me points and not miles and they confirmed that you get what you have as your earnings preference at the time the stay is processed and posts on your account
