ANOTHER Courtyard opening in Munich

https://www.marriott.com/hotels/trav...ich-city-east/

Looks nice, Haidhausen is a good location, near the Deutsches Museum, easy walk to center city, and the best beer in Munich at the Unions-Bräu Gasthaus/Restaurant and the attached Biergarten.

Best of all, it's currently listed as a category 3 (!) hotel! That is unlikely to last long (the other Munich Courtyard, and the two FS properties, are Cat 5).

Good place to redeem the free 1-4 night certificates from the MegaBonus?

Not this current promo, unfortunately. According to the website, this property isn't opening until October. It also appears to be co-located with a Residence Inn (category 4) at the same address and opening at the same time.

And it appears the current MUC Courtyard is going away as a Courtyard.

For me, the old Courtyard has the better location.

Doesn't appear that you can book it out in time, but can book the new one. The REN is also going.

When I check, I'm able to book the old Courtyard out through the end of the year, at least, and the new Courtyard from early October.

And I don't see the Residence Inn skj mentioned.

Yes, and I'm going to miss it.

I have an award stay booked at the Courtyard City Center currently (have not issued the e-cert yet) should I do so to make my stay "more guaranteed".

We just got back from 4 nights at the Renaissance in Munich and saw the new under-construction Courtyard and Residence Inn while taking the S8 train to the airport. The hotels were on the far side of the tracks when the train went above ground at the Ostbahnhof and I'd surmise that it wouldn't be as convenient to get to the touristy parts of the city center from the new locations (the Ren had a U-Bahn station within a 2 minute walk and was 6 stops/~12 minutes from Marienplatz).

As an aside, the Ren is as terribly out of date as the other threads have said, and no A/C, even on a cool spring day, is awful.

Can anyone give me an idea how far away these new hotels are from MUC airport?

EDIT: found answer on above link.

Also, would you be able to take public transit from airport to their location? (i.e. how difficult would it be for a non German speaker?)

thanks!

33 minutes.

See http://www.munich-airport.de/en/cons...ahn1/index.jsp and the entry for the S8 train and the Ostbahnhof.

Try to book the old Courtyard next year 2012 - I can't see it. It could be that you can yet book into 2012 - but you can with the Marriott.

I think their point was you implied it was going away soon when you first said it was going away upthread, and someone else pointed out they could book through end of year & you came back w/ 2012, which is not soon. And actually is after when the other one is open.

Cheers.

Strange!

That link takes me to the page that talks about the RI and says it'll be opening in October, yet when I try the "find & reserve" search engine for dates in October it doesn't show up on the listing.

Same for November and December.

Wonder why it doesn't show up?

Because the final opening date is not set for the RI. The Courtyard will soft-open sometime in August, but the Residence Inn will probably take a month or two longer to complete.

The availability for the Courtyard has been loaded a few days ago only, so when they know when the RI will be completely finished, availability will be loaded for that hotel as well...

Greetings - Dirk
