On Command (alias Lodgenet) - Why is it so Terrible

Is it just me - or is On Command / Lodgenet awful?

Their technology is so outdated its a complete joke.

I was at a Marriott a couple of weeks ago, and there wasn't even a fast forward function available to use...

not to mention it takes the system forever to load a movie.

give me a break - wakeup OnCommand...its 2010...

I'll also add that my usual Courtyard has the sleep timer disabled... Big negative for me...

in room movies for the lodging industry has high barriers to entry (ie cost) and as a result there are very few competitors.....but with TVoIP coming things will be changing in the future

Thanks socrates. Good point. What is TVoIP? I haven't heard of it.

Actually Lodgenet has updated systems available to hotels but not every hotel has the newer systems installed. Many still have systems that are 10+ years old. The older Lodgenet systems are very basic.

As the economy declined funding to hotel technology companies (which Lodgenet is) started to dry up; they once were willing to provide the hotel new TV's for all of their rooms so long as they could keep 90% of the revenue their system provided....this model has become extremely difficult for them recently....and as a result more and more operators have started to turn to cable companies to directly provide service (and the brands have started to waive the requirements for services such as those provided by On-Command)

Interesting - thanks Socrates.

It actually does make a lot of sense.

I still say OnCommand (Lodgenet) is terrible...

*sigh*

Ya know what's even sadder? I can recite the dang barker by heart now

"Press menu to see what's new in Movies ... Romance ... and more!"
"Traveling with the kids? Put your mind at ease! Press 'Menu' to block adult content!"
