oakland ca properties question

We have a reservation for the Oakland Marriott as we need to stay in Oakland. Today I received the reminder email that our stay begins shortly and noticed that their pool is not open due to repairs. I went online and noticed the Courtyard Oakland which is also downtown and they do have a pool. I am considering changing my reservations though as a Plat I can stay one weekend night free and can use the conc. lounges. Anyone have info about the Oakland Marriott vs the Courtyard Marriott? I am thinking that maybe I can use their pool as I think they are near one another.
Thanks

The Oakland Marriott is in downtown oakland... It's in an area that you wouldn't want to walk around at night too much. The property is decent, nothing special... Any special reason you're staying in Oakland as opposed to SF?

CY is directly across the street from the FS Marriott. I stayed at both hotels. The hotels are also located next to Oakland's Chinatown. The metro is a block away. There is not much to do at nights in the area. If you need to stay in OAK and have a rental car, I would suggest CY Oakland Emeryville. The hotel is next to the Bay Street Mall. Great for shopping, food and movies.

Thanks for the recommendations. Are there any Plat perks at Courtyards such a breakfast coupons, etc? Both CY's are available so we are reconsidering and yes we will have a car for part of the time in OAK.

From what I've read on this forum, there aren't really any perks to staying at CY & no brekkie coupons.

Unless the CY is super cheap, I'd probably stay at the FS Marriott if you need to be in downtown since you can use an EEO. Better chance of a room upgrade at a FS, and if it's directly across the street from the CY they're probably making some type of arrangement for their guests to use that pool. You could call the Marriott & ask about alternate pool arrangements.

Or if you only need to be in OAK for the day, then staying outside at CY near other stuff might work.

BTW - if you do end up staying at the FS, can you do an update on the lounge weekend access - ie, if it's open or closed, if they give brekkie coupons, if it's key accessible if it's closed, if it has an i-net terminal or wifi? Think what we have in the lounge thread is outdated.

Cheers.

OP said he/she has to stay in Oakland. So the choice is btwn MR & CY. My understanding is OP wants a pool, that eliminated MR due to pool under repair.
I have not stayed in either property. Up-post cautions about personal safety. I too express same. Be careful while in Oakland.

About CY in general, there is no CL for most domestic CYs. If that's important, I'd pick up the phone & call the hotel. Most domestic CYs (and 100% for those that I've stayed in) comp breakfast.

I stayed at the OAK Marriott FS five times and the CY across the street once. The Marriott FS had completed renovations to their rooms and its much nicer then CY across the street. As a PLAT member, FS will most likely put you on the club floor or at least give you access to the club. The club may be closed on weekends. At CY, you may get a room upgrade (1 bedroom suite) if available. You may want to call the FS Marriott to find out when the pool would be fixed. I stayed at another property and the repair of the pool was completed ahead of schedule.
