Point Discrepancy Question

I just noticed on my account summary, I've been getting points for another persons stay for the past several months. I ended up getting a good corporate rate for my company at a Courtyard. I've been getting credit, and now realize, I'm also getting credit for another colleague's stay. Who that colleague is, I have no clue. Also, I didn't get credited for stays, just points.

So, here and lies my question. How do guest actually get credited for stays? Is it simply the rewards number on the reservation? Is it a combination of rewards number, and credit card? And the most important one, can those points be taken away?

Your help in helping me understand how this could happen is appreciated.

I can't really answer your first question, but I can tell you that if Marriott finds that you have received points you shouldn't have, they can pull the points out of your account.

It is interesting that you are receiving the points, but not the night credit. I would have thought it would be an all or nothing deal. I might suggest you send Marriott Concierge a PM or give MR a call to see about tracking down what the issue is. If you are receiving points from someone else's stays, I would think that sooner or later they will realize that they aren't getting points they should. And Marriott will figure it out then.

Could these be points from a past stay of yours that didn't post correctly and Marriott is correcting it now?
