Internet charges for PLAT

Don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but when Marriott announced the free internet service for plats, I was happy. I turned off my internal bb card and have statrted ussing the hotels. wifi.. the down side to this is that I have tro clean up the bill every time I check out. that is starting to get a little old.. maybe I am doing something wrong.. jiust thought if anyone knew.. it would be you folks! :)

So far, I have yet to be charged for internet.

I stayed at the Memphis Marriott this past weekend. They not did not charge me. In fact, when I tried to access the internet, their I-Net Access splash page came up and it had a special note letting me know that Golds/Plats can choose any of the internet options (including the fast internet access) without any charges. And none showed up on my bill.

I suspect that some hotels are just a little slower at getting the free internet access correctly setup in their system. I might suggest that when you check-in you ask about the internet access and how you should handle it so that you won't have to spend time at check-out getting your folio cleaned-up.

As far as you doing something wrong, I'm not sure there is anything you are supposed to be doing. I haven't mentioned anything when checking-in or done anything special to remind the hotel staff that I shouldn't be charged. Hopefully as time goes on, the number of hotels that are "mistakenly" still charnging Gold/Plats will get smaller and smaller.

Haven't been charged in over a dozen stays since the announcement. At least 5 properties. Hope it gets better for you!

It happens at the Renaissance chain in Dallas.. so maybe they have not gotten up to speed. :)

About 1/2 the time I have to have the charge removed and have had the same property not have the charge for my first stay, but have it on the bill for the second. All have been very quick to remove it when I bring it to their attention. As best as I can figure, the process of removing the charge is manual and apparently the staff who is generating the receipts are not all quite up to speed.

SPG has the same offer for Platinums, but Marriott has done a better job in keeping the folio's clean of charges, imho.

Remember also that not all Marriotts participate outside the US. Was at Manila Marriott last week. They charged PHP 700 (about $15.25) per day (LAN cable only), with no waiver for Plat/Gold. Wireless in the Lounge was free, though.

What I dont like is when I want to video checkout and these mistakes are on the bill, you cant call and fix it. They want you to come to the front desk. If the mistake is the hotels, a call should do it! I dont want to wait in line and then at the desk.

Well, bottom feeders like me, who spend their nights in Fairfield Inns, Quality Inns, even Motel 6's, have been getting free wifi for along time. :)

You shouldn't need to be present at the front desk for this correction to be made, your status is in the system - the GSA can/should make the adjustment once being made aware of it regardless of the method in which they were notified (smoke signal, telephone, email etc)....hopefully this isn't happening to you everywhere...I would encourage you to provide feedback

That is not at all my experience.

In my experiences, it has been spotty in it's application, for sure, and certainly needs improvement for smoothness and consistency!
