Upgrade Chances When Booking Concierge Level
Staying two nights next week at the Columbus Ren. Regular rate is $139. Concierge Level rate is $159 and includes Internet ($12.95 +tax). So, the difference comes out to about $8.
If booking a club level room as a plat, are chances of a better upgrade to a some type of suite or nicer room any better? I currently have the club floor room booked but may switch it if not worth the try.
Thank you for your help.

It depends on availability.
If available, you can book a deluxe or superior room, then upgrade to suite.
If it is fully booked, you can only get the CL access.

It won't help or hurt your chances of getting an upgrade. The only difference is that you KNOW you'll be on the concierge floor. For $8, that seems like a pretty good deal...

In the case of this hotel and availability for next week shown on marriott.com, the only nicer room is a 1 Bedroom Junior Suite, 1 Queen, Sofabed which is not on the CL. If I were a manager and you booked a CL room, I would question whether upgrading you to a 1 Bedroom Junior Suite was an upgrade especially since the regular rate for a 1 Bedroom Junior Suite is $159 and the CL room is normally $169. Personally I would book the non-CL room and save the $8.
You are going to get lounge access anyway.
