still platinum
weird, i stayed <10 nights, and just got a letter saying i was extended til 2011. weird since all my stays in '08 were cheap (about $100/night) via corp discounts and all my (6) stays in '09 were MMF rate. i'm VERY appreciattive.

Interesting. How many nights did you have in 2008 and 2007? There was a thread a while back about Marriott averaging the nights per year for the last 3 years of membership to get status levels when a member does no re-qualify. I would assume that with stays down across the board, they might be more lenient this year.

26 nights in 2009, most of them in the first half of the year, and still gold for the rest of 2010. What gives?

I'm thinking that unless you literally only stayed like 2 nights or something in '09 that Marriott is smart enough to know that in this **** economy that it would be **** stupid to demote anyone.
If I worked at Marriott Corporate I would certainly be giving the benefit of the doubt to anyone who was even remotely closel in '09 (i.e. 50+ nights should be given PLT).

Good to hear this. I had ~120 nights in 2009, but will have only 10-15 in 2010, so I'm hopeful for the future.

I had 54 nights in 2009 and became Platinum a few days ago. I guess they probably have counted the nights from previous nights.

I had about 30 nights including 15 on VISA last year and got the PLT renewal as well... apparently it *wasn't* because I just booked this years stays - 131 nights

Have not stayed at a Marriott property since April/May last year and PLT was renewed. Total night count was around 50 including 15 from the Visa.
Not missing Marriott's at all. Much happier with Hyatt's, InterContinental's, and Startwood properties.
