We’ll credit your account with 500 bonus points per day at participating Renaissance® and Marriott® hotels or 250 bonus points per day at participating Courtyard®, Fairfield Inn®, and SpringHill Suites® hotels in the U.S. and Canada.

You can pass on housekeeping any day, for up to 3 consecutive days at a time for up to 5,000 bonus points per continuous stay.

Available when you stay 2 or more nights at participating Renaissance, Marriott, Courtyard, Fairfield Inn, and SpringHill Suites hotels in the U.S. and Canada. Generally the hotel will not access the room on opted out days, but reserves the right to do so. Please note that hotels will be implementing this new benefit throughout 2016.

I'll match my quest for points with anyone. Imagine: 50 stays per year with 1000 points each stay for doing without maid service for a day. Imagine, 50,000 points for doing something most of us (like me) already do!! Its like an extra megabonus and it will cost us absolutely nothing.

All well and good. But the next time Marriott increases redemption levels for its properties, please remember how insanely easy it will be getting to earn points. This, in my opinion, would come close to getting us to some kind of tipping point. (and, yes, as an addict I would certainly take advantage of the opportunity.)

Is this only at Select Marriotts or universal?

The Sheratons I have stayed at all have offered the 500 points for declining maid service so I was wondering if this is now offered universally across the Marriott brands (courtyard, marriott, etc).

If it is not, can someone tell me how I can find out if a hotel offers points for declining maid service? I don't know how to find hotels that offer this.

One poster has reported this offer at one hotel. Let's not get too excited yet.

it's not universal...infact it's not an officially recognized program by any of the larger hotel companies (Starwood, Hilton, Hyatt & Marriott)...but you better believe I've shared this thread with a bunch of friends

The door card seemed very official as it was on official Marriott card stock. Even the $5 restaurant credit was on an "official" marriott coupon (it can be traded in at the front desk, if unused, for 1,000 points).

I'm now at a Westin. Taking a look at their 'decline housekeeping' door card, it's evident that Marriott is taking a swing directly at starwood. Both cards are nearly the same. I'm sure this program is being rolled out at corporate marriott locations and the franchise locations that are willing to adopt it.

P.S. - got a beautiful suite at the Westin. Seems to be a consistent theme whenever I stay at a Westin as a platinum (jab).

while it might look official (and it might be) I would/should have seen something on it before now - typically if a hotel is going to do something like this they will do it right - such as printing quality collateral as you've mentioned

This was at the Detroit Marriott Southfield. This hotel is the furthest from quality or trend setting. They do, however, have a number of long term guests as it is right next to the IBM office. There must be another Marriott out there doing it. If this hotel is a "test bed", I fear for the future of Marriott.

Reading the link posted by the OP, it appears that the bonus is PER NIGHT. (except for the last night of your stay, of course)

So let's see - I have a 5 night stay @ Marriott. That means I could get 4K points for one stay???? As Marriott requires 30 nights to get 50K points on a megabonus, this earning potential seems a little rich.

How could a hotel possibly keep this straight? There would be people that want service for 3 days in a row and then skip 2. Or whatever. A nightmare for accounting and housekeeping.

And I can't wait to read the FT posts:
"This is the worse run Marriott in the UNIVERSE! And I should know, I am PLAT! I checked in on Tuesday for a 30 day stay. There were only 3 towels in the room, so I called Housekeeping to get 12 more, figuring if I could use each towel for 2 days, I could get through my stay without any maid service whatsoever and earn 29K in housekeeping points + my Plat amenity + my Plat 50% bonus + my regular points + my credit card points AND get credit towards the megabonus. But after I waited for 12 minutes, they only brought 9 towels - so I went to the front desk for compensation................"

Per stay? Possibly. Per night?

This hotel is a franchise (use to be managed many many moons ago)....I can't recall off the top of my head which company purchased it and now manages it

The Hanover Marriott has been offering 500 points per night (except the last night) since at least March of this year. I usually stay 5 nights so that's 2,000 juicy points for hanging my towel up every day.

I haven't seen this at other locations but I now make sure I mention it every time I check in. I'm doing my bit to extend this program.

This tactic clearly helps with labor costs as awarding 500-1000 points is probably more cost effective for the hotel than having the room cleaned by an hourly wage worker - especially with a full-service hotel (that requires more work than a limited service hotel would require) - but at the end of the day, it's a hard-working housekeeper who is losing hours/salary.

I know most here probably don't care about that as we care about the points, but just something to think about...not judging by any means as I'd probably take the points as well - but in this economy, the more people working/spending the better we'll all be...

Does this still go on? I just heard one of my coworkers talking about Starwood hotels that do it. Too late for my stay this week, but I'll definitely ask at checkin next week.

I don't stay at a lot of different hotels but IME I've not found any willing to do this.
