Status Match Advice?
Sorry to bother you guys with this. I've been trying to find out if MR will status match, and what is the procedure. I've got a Hilton Gold Card, and a Hyatt Gold and am a Air France Platinum FF.
If any one has any suggestions about how to go about it, i'd really appreciate it. I'm trying to get it sorted fairly quickly because we're staying at the Rive Gauche in Paris in November for our anniversary. T
Thanks.

In general Marriott does not match elite statuses, they are more likely to offer a Status Challenge where you have to stay X number of nights within a 3 month period of time.
If you are still interested, you would need to give Marriott Rewards a call and ask them. Also, if you want to see more experiences and what some of the offers have been, just do a search in this forum with the term(s) "status" and "challenge" or "elite" and "challenge".
You can also find some information in the http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/miles...er-thread.html

Sometimes if you can show a large number of reservations (ie 4 nights every week for the next 10 weeks) the property may do something to bump you up. Happened to one of my colleagues. But from what I understand, this is the exception and not the rule.
YMMV

This worked for me... I mentioned that I would be willing to stay at Marriott hotels 3 nights/week for the next 10 months if I was bumped from nada to Gold... and was promptly bumped to Platinum. However, I emailed the specific hotel's Sales Director, not Marriott Customer Service - that probably makes a difference.

I still need 15 nights to reach platinum at Marriott. As of right now, I'm considering keeping it that way and just focusing on maintaining Hyatt, Hilton, and SPG next year.

Did you have any luck?
I have 3 nights/week for the next month booked with Marriott, and promised them 120+nights/year, and the only offer I got was a challenge to Silver! This coming from top tier SPG, and I can show them that I have stayed in a hotel 25 of the last 30 nights.
I'm going to try e-mailing them.

doctor15, I'm in a similar situation to you. What was the silver challenge they offered you? They offered me a challenge to stay 6 nights and get silver (but I am 6 nights away from silver already!).
I applied for the marriott credit card (which will bump you to silver) and will then try my luck with a challenge. Hopefully the card gets processed quickly, I have a bunch of stays coming up pretty soon.

I was offered the same 6 night challenge, which isnt really much of an offer. My employer gives me automatic Silver status anyways.
As others have alluded to, some of my co-workers have had success getting a straight up platinum match by working with the hotel's sales manager and guaranteeing recurring bookings. This probably only works though if you were going to stay at the same property, and it is a reasonably high end property.

Unfortunately, most of my stays are pretty spread out (though I do have an 8 night stay at the Wardman Park Marriot in DC). I'm not sure that tactic would work for me. I'd be curious if you have any luck e-mailing.

Very nice that you were successful. ^^ It's very unusual that you were automatically made Plat. Congratulations.

My e-mail was a success as well. I have 3 months to stay 18 nights (that won't be a problem). Interestingly, the temporary status isn't reflected in my account online. Did yours show up right away doctor15?
Since the challenge doesn't officially start until Nov. 1, I think I'll wait until Monday before calling (or e-mailing) them about that.

Moving to HKG and going to be living out of one of the Marriott properties in HKG. Currently I do not have any status with Marriott and Gold with both SPG and ICH. Has anyone had Marriott bump up their status based on this sort of situation? I will be there at a minimum of 30 days and a max of 90 or until residency and work permits are set up and household goods arrive in HKG. Should I contact MR or the hotel sales office I am working with?

definitely a case-by-case as well ... but i was staying in a new marriott hotel and i could show a long term duration (12 weeks) and i convinced the manager to upgrade my 'hilton' colleagues to marriott platinum if i got them all to stay with me at the marriott.
she obliged and now they have marriott status.
So if you can also get a 'status' friend or fellow traveler to vouch for you ... that never hurts!
good luck.
