And just to confuse things further, the Ren is in Elizabeth, not Newark!
I've stayed there too (though not this year) with no bug bites.

Ok, but the hotel name does have "Newark" in it. They have shuttles to the Newark airport.

Bed bugs are a big problem in metropolitan New York area for last 5-8 years. Most hotels use complete encasing in plastic cover to avoid infestation of matresses. Since these bugs are spread more by travellers (rather than by hotel), precaution is all you can do.

There are plenty of kits to check for bed bug other than visual inspection.

Best way to avoid bugs getting into your luggage is, keep it in the bathroom tub. bed bugs dont crawl over sides of tubs.

Also in NY metropolitan area which extends south up to edison, lock your door with both extra bolt and the door stopper. (even in good hotels)

I can't believe no one has asked "how many points did they give you?"

I would hold out for at least 50k.

I don't think this is how the bed bugs are getting into the hotel rooms.

The lady from head office first offered 25k. I saw this thread where people got 90k and maybe even refund of stay, so I asked 90k for my 3+1 day stay. She increased to 40k. I told her I'd rather not get any bed bug bites, vs getting bug bites and get 40k points.

She said 40k is the final offer, I said forget it. I refrained from posting public before that. Now I'm posting my experience. Not badmouthing Marriott, just sharing that there was confirmed bed bug incident in the hotel.

I wonder about that too. Why would extra bolt do anything? How would the door stopper, stop bed bugs from getting in?

I would have found that insufficient as well.

Perhaps the thread title should be changed so as not to mislead those who didn't read the contents.
