Courtyard Rome Central Park [Master Thread]

Does anyone have any experiences with the Marriott Rome Central Park since it was re-branded as a Courtyard? Is it centrally located and within walking distance of the attractions? Any good restaurants nearby?

I'm thinking of taking my mother there this summer and wanted to be sure this hotel was centrally located and decent.

I hear you have to take the train into the city, but it's not too bad.

I'm curious as well. I am looking at a summer trip to Italy and the difference between the Grand Flora and the Central Park is >200 Euros per night, which adds up quickly for a multi-night stay. According to what I can piece together from Marriott.com and the Rome Metro map, the hotel is an easy walk to the Gemelli station on the FM3, but I can't get the Rome route planner to tell me how long the ride is from Gemelli to Termini (or any other central location). It always wants to send me by bus instead....

These are two separate hotels. The Rome Park Marriott is not the same as the independent Rome Park Central hotel that will be a courtyard. I have not been to either, but here's the link to TripAdisor on the soon to be courtyard.

I don't think any of us were talking about the Marriott.... we're asking about the CY.

I think you're all confused.

Any updates on this CY. Location ok, hotel ok, staff ok?

I stayed at the Central Park CY last year. The train station is a very easy walk just behind the hotel (5 minute walk max) with easy transfer to the metro line. Be careful about which train you get on coming back though as not every train will stop at Gemelli. We were treated to a nice tour of the Rome countryside as the train passed Gemelli and kept going for a good half hour before it stopped and then waited for another train to take us back. As a Platinum I was upgraded to a top floor room with a view of St. Peters. Also got free breakfast in the basement floor breakfast room. Staff was average.

Recent 2011 Stay at Courtyard Rome Central Park Marriott

30 year old couple
Platinum member from Canada

Average Service... At Best...

King Room was not gauranteed.
Internet was not complimentary for Platinum.
Breakfast was not free for Platinum.

Of course called the Platinum line and all these charges are being reversed but flying your wife across the continent to not sleep together on a 9 day romantic trip to Italy is kind of annoying.

Did get 'upgraded' to larger St Peters facing room...

Free shuttle into Rome is very very big deal though, and always on time and courteous drivers.

Metro into town from Gemecelli station... Station was very very sketchy; spray paint every where, no maintenance, not even advertising is maintained there. However, 20 min max ride into Rome Termini. (Keep in mind you need to switch at M red line to get to Termini the Metro from Gemecelli station does not go direct)

We took Metro from Gemecelli 1 stop towards Rome to Builgari (<SP?) and ate at Caprelli which was far better then Restaurant food in hotel.

FYI Last free shuttle from Rome to Hotel is 8:30pm

I don't get why the breakfast charge is being reversed. That's not a Plat benefit is it?

(Honestly the only reason I stay at American chains in Europe is to use points so if you are really "peddling" romantic week I can't see why you would have picked this hotel anyway)

Yes to Breakfast as a Platinum benefit... and yes to the points in American Chains in Europe...

This is drifting OT, but I've been consistently charged for Breakfast at CYs as a Platinum. Is this a benefit I've been missing?

What about breakfast for gold

Unless you're in Asia (which Rome is not), Golds don't normally get brekkie at CYs. Plats either for that matter, although there are a couple of reports in Europe (Munich comes to mind) where Plats are provided brekkie. But it's not the norm.

Cheers.
