Well in the case of Rome most of us will lay odds on No. CY is exempt from providing brekkie. US doesn't, Europe extremely rarely, Asia usually. The few times in Europe are for Plats, not Gold.

So if I were you I'd ask more, where in the neighborhood is a good place for brekkie cheap? Since you don't get points for anything other than room rate at CY,not worth spending $$ there. If no points.

Cheers.

I stayed at this property two and a half years ago and didn't get free breakfast.

It's a OK place to stay if you have limited budget. It's a little far from city center but the hotel provides a paid shuttle to downtown in the morning. Also note the nearest train station (Gemelli) DOES NOT have a functional ticketing machine so make sure buy the ticket at a tobacco store in advance.

How many blocks is it from the nearest train station to this property?

Closest train station is Gemelli, about a 7-minute walk. A quick ride gets you to near the Vatican (Valle Aurelia). From there you can connect to metro/tram/bus network. Get a day pass from the lobby gift shop (that’s what I did), and you’re set to go explore Rome. Note the train schedule though.

You walk the short route like an inverted U. Out of the hotel front door, turn right; then turn right on the first block (slightly uphill); then right on the main road, then another final right to the station.

I recommend this hotel for following reasons:
1. About half the cost of most central Rome Marriott properties.
2. Convenient transportation (contrast to some comments up-thread).
3. Rooms features are better than most CY properties (compared to European CYs; miles ahead of US CYs)
4. Elites (at PLT) being well treated in terms of UG and brekkie (when I was there).
5. Very competent from desk.
6. A self laundry near the hotel; also salon for hair cut etc...
7. Taxi to/from airport a much shorter ride than from central Rome.
8. Did notice (but didn't use) a convenient store of sort 1 block away.

I didn't notice too many restaurants nearby. That was not my concern as I spent all my time in Rome. :D

Very helpful response, thank you.

I think that's a really good summary and having stayed here in May I concur. You do need to caveat the transport a bit more explicitly though - in that the trains to the hotel's station are not as frequent at the weekend. Guests would be best planning when to get a train to/from the hotel, especially on Sunday (seem to remember only one train every 30 minutes or so).

As a Platinum staying here I was given an upgrade to a top floor suite-like room with a balcony and a lovely view looking out towards Rome - this was just on a cheap weekend rate of about 100 Euros/night so was very welcome. Breakfast was also provided as a result of status (Edit: I thought, maybe it was included in my rate?).

Was here in June on a BRG.

No breakfast as gold. Walked a couple blocks to a cafe. (also a Tobacco shop that sold tickets ^). Next door was a pizza place selling by weight. There was a tasty Trattoria in this same 'strip mall' with reasonable pricing.

Any updates on this property? I am looking at April 2019 and went elsewhere the last time.

I stayed with my family in April of this year. It is a Courtyard, but the rooms are more closely appointed to what I would expect at an FS Marriott, so it's slightly nicer than expected, and they have great staff. The price was less than half of what I could find in the city center. If you are on the right side of the hotel you have a great (but distant) view of St. Peters. The restaurants at the hotel are good but pricey.

It is a bit farther from the city center, but you will barely notice unless you are a night owl. It is fairly close to the metro, however, I never actually took it. The hotel had a shuttle that ran into Rome every hour (with dropoff and return pickup by the Vatican). You did have to pay for it, but if I recall correctly it was something like 5 euro a day roundtrip. It ran fairly late, but not past around 9 PM.

The hotel also has a standing arrangement for a car service to the airport for a flat 60 euros, which is a fair price.

It's NOT a metro station, but an overground TRAIN station called "GEMELLI".
The difference is important.
Trains here pass less frequently than the metro, and stop running around 22:30 at night. Keep that in mind when coming back from central rome to the hotel at night.
On weekends, it's even worse as the trains pass only once every half hour.

To get the real metro you have to change at "VALLE AURELIA" station and go onto metro line A.

catocony May 28, 2019 11:43 pm

Slightly off topic, but if you have a multiday or week pass for Rome Metro (whatever it's called), are the overground trains included or is there a separate charge? Tickets are cheap, like 1 Euro to get from Gemelli to Valle Aurelia, but I hate having to fuss with multiple cards/tickets to get around town.

Does this hotel have a lounge ?

nobbyclark Jun 10, 2019 9:50 am

No lounge, at least not in March 2018, which was when I last stayed there
