I just wanted to take a moment to thank all those who responded!
I had decided on the LM based on price alone (wasn't excited about the location, but did like the possibility of upgrades). As it turned out, I waited too long and the LM went from cheapest (by 500 HKD) to most expensive, making the decision a little easier.
I was concerned about getting a crappy upgrade (or none at all) at the Sheraton, so decided to stay at the brand new W for 50 HKD more per night to see what it's like.
Thanks again for your feedback!

Hong Kong - W Hotel or Sheraton
I am planning for a two nights stay in Hong Kong in October using *wood points. I have narrowed it down to W Hotel on Austin Road or Sheraton Hotel on Nathan Road.
Since I’ll be using points and they are both Cat 5 properties, so “cost” is not in the equation. Things to consider are overall property condition, access to public transportation (especially MTR), location to touristy places (I like Sheraton location, but is W close enough walking distance that it should not matter?).
So which is a better choice?

W Hong Kong is not really walking distance to TST. W Hong Kong is literally above Kowloon Station in the Elements Mall complex. Have you stayed at a W before? Some people just don't like the W vibe. Lately I've been staying at the W Hong Kong due to favorable rates but at times I miss the ease of just walking outside to TST. The hotel does offer shuttle service to TST, but I don't have the schedule handy.
The only gripe about staying at the W Hong Kong is the Tung Chung line doesn't seem to run nearly as often as the Tsuen Wan line.

over rated hotel
I stayed 3 nights last week at the Sheraton Hong Kong. As earlier posts state, the location is excellent. Their upgrade policy of either a non-harbor view suite or a harbor view room was in effect. We opted for the suite which was touted as having a courtyard/garden view. although there is a small garden courtyard, our view was looking at the rooms on the opposite tower and the rooftop of another building. The "executive lounge" on the 9th floor was the smallest I've ever seen. It has about 8 small two person tables in a row. The decision to put a non-smoking lounge on a smoking floor was very odd. The moment you step off the elevator the smell of smoke was over whelming on this floor. There was no breakfast available here, just 1 hot item and a few cold items along with complimentary wine/cocktails from 5-8 pm. (shuts down promptly at 8) breakfast for plats was in the cafe on 2F. Continental was complimentary but if you choose the buffet a charge of 33HK is added to your bill. The cafe had the feel of a Las Vegas casino coffee shop.
Over all I was umimpressed with this property and would choose another *wood property in Hong Kong.

I am attending a trade show at AsiaWorld-Expo (near HKG/HKIA) and am torn between the Sheraton in the Towers and LM, both on points. Slightly fewer points for the LM, both access to the lounge.
I was just told by a SPG Platinum Concierge (who called the LM) that the LM lounge was open 3-12am and drinks are served the whole time and breakfast has fresh squeezed juice. Can anyone confirm this?
Does anyone know if transportation to and from AsiaWorld-Expo will be fairly convenient or at least similar to the Sheraton?

It's not similar to the Sheraton. Once at HK Station, you have to take a taxi or the hotel shuttle to get to the Meridien.
Great if you have the time. Not so great if you're tight on time.
But, the Plat bennies more than make up for it.

If you are talking about staying in the Sheraton Towers ( not the main house) then you will enjoy yourself. Free internet, cocktails, laundry and breakfast not to mention a fabulous staff and great view from the lounge. Don't even think about the LM. I am there three times a year for trade shows so PM me if you have any questions.
