All taken care of....
And definitely take care of! They upgraded me again to an -04 suite. Gorgeous. large room.... with living room area, dining area overlooking the city.
Nice large bathroom with soaking tub and large shower.
Separate bedroom. Very nice! (And even though it's one night, I'm glad I said something...)
I only needed to speak with one Whatever/Whenever associate Lee. He was great!

This is very after-the-fact, but I had a great experience there last year, the weekend after Thanksgiving. I went up to the penthouse bar (can't remember the name). Bartender was very friendly, made a great martini. After I sat for a while waiting for my friends to meet me, he said "you could use a shot, what kinds of things do you like". As I was already drinking gin, he made a great gin/cucumber shot on the house.
Room was great, and the Living Room was a flurry of very good looking people, virtually every woman out of my league...

Stayed this past Friday night. My luck at this property continues...very high suite hit rate.
This is a great property and very well run. Friendly front desk and bell staff.
My only dings are that I always have problems with the wifi. This past stay wasn't the first time I've had problems. I will be working and all of a sudden the wifi goes out/I lose my connection. The wifi just goes in and out constantly. On Friday night, I rebooted my computer and the wifi worked. On Saturday morning, none of my "tricks" worked (reboot computer, reset wireless card, etc.). So, I left and had breakfast. When I came back, it worked.
The other problem was the shower hot water/pressure. For this stay, I was on the top floor (28) and the shower pressure just seemed a bit weak and it took forever for the hot water to kick in. When it did, it wasn't particularly hot. And, I am not a super hot water guy...I like it warm'ish. But, even at a full hot setting, it was barely good enough. I don't remember this being a problem in the past. And, I am definitely not a rain shower guy. I like a regular shower. This is particularly the case with a rain shower...if the pressure isn't great a rain shower is pretty dismal.
But, great property and I would not hesitate staying here again and again. As I noted in the Chambers thread, this property and the Chambers are run by the same management company.

I'm going to be staying here in April and am very much looking forward to it (it will be my first W!). Question about Prohibition: is there a per table minimum? Also, when it says "smart casual" as dress code are we talking khakis and a button down being acceptable?

So, I am guessing no minimum and khakis/button down will be the dress code.

Right about no minimum - as far as smart casual, that means no tank tops, shorts, or robes. A polo shirt and jeans (without rips and stains) would be my recommendation.

Here's a stay report from 4/14-4/15
Check In: The agent who checked us in was very friendly and we had a nice conversation with her. However, she was obviously new (and in fact told us this) and had trouble answering questions. My brother and I had booked a room with a King bed as it was cheaper than one with two and when we asked about upgrades she became obviously nervous and proceeded to offer us the worst sale attempt I've ever seen. Still, it beats someone rude or indifferent.
Room: We had a Wonderful King on the 13th floor. Annoyingly, it was stuck in the corner which meant that while having windows on two walls was great, the TV was stuck in a corner far away from the bed which made watching it tough. This was my first ever W stay and I was impressed by a lot of small features. The bathroom was great with a huge walk in shower and again, windows (that was a new one). There was an impressive wet bar set up that made me feel like Don Draper and a decent sized desk. Internet at $12 a day wasn't terrible (the aforementioned agent again got nervous when we asked her about this) and the TV had a DVD player which was a nice perk.
Other: We had a drink at the Prohibition Bar on the 27th floor. The staff there were all very friendly and the bartender went out of his way to figure out what food was left after the kitchen closed, a big plus. The place was packed as it was Saturday night but it was a great place to check out the beautiful people and the skyline views were impressive.
I really liked this hotel and would be happy to stay here again. I passed on valet parking and self parked across the street for only $10. The W touches like cordless phones, the kaleidoscope on the desk, fancy bath products and purple/pink lighting were a lot of fun. Note: the lobby bar is obviously a trendy hotspot at night and burly security guards tried to card us when we walked in. After I showed our room card they let us through.
Our rate was $140 and I would gladly stay here again, it's a very fun piece of history and the fact that I was allowed to go on the rooftop observation area was a big plus.

Sorry you didn't make our dinner group on Saturday night as I had made a mental note to tell you not to miss the observation deck and associated little history museum on the top floor, free for hotel guests. The W was even cheaper the previous weekend, as were most of the Minneapolis area Starwoods (Easter).

I'm glad you liked it. The original art deco building was once the tallest building between Chicago and San Francisco, or so I have been told by the natives here. I generally like the design of the W Foshay, although I wish some areas like the hallways and the elevators at night were lighter and didn't use so much black carpeting and black paint.
