Marriott Leipzig [Master Thread]
 

Hi,

just booked a room at the Marriott Leipzig for tonight. As this is a weekday stay I assume I will receive free breakfast as Gold and most likely access to the Executive lounge of the hotel.

So does anybody know if the breakfast for Golds will also be in the lounge, or will I be able to choose from the same options as Excutive-level guests? In the description of these rooms I find the following:

It's just curiosity (I also could wait until I get to the hotel to find out later this afternoon) but if anyone has insight that would be very much appreciated.

In case someone is interested in the outcome, I asked on checkin and was old it was my choice, so I went for the restaurant, which again was confirmed the next morning there. When checking out the folio had a 18 Euro charge for breakfast, however when mentioning the information given on checkin the agent appologized for the mistake and took the charge off.

Can anyone describe the Marriott? Is it in good condition? How well does it treat platinums? I have a room booked at the Fuerstenhof, but someone reported a better stay experience here.

Stayed there quite a few times since my original post, and in general the hotel is nice, however the service is not up to Marriott standards I expect. As a Plat expect a upgrade to Exec-Level with access to Lounge, but no "special room" or Suite upgrade. In general an OK place, yet the lack of service makes it not really something I enyoed tremendously. Did not use the restaurant except for breakfast once (usually used the lounge - they will get you any hot item you desire on order from the restaurant), but had the Marriott Burger from room-service once - again an OK thing, not more. My benchmark for Germany (Marriott Munich Airport) does better on ANY instance by far.

Location is nice - right across the train station and at the border of the old town area. Lots of places to go and dine out, including my favourite Thai-place (make a left out of the hotel, then a left at the next corner, the right the next corner again - place is on the left about 3 minutes walk from the hotel). As for brand-name hotels, your choice is between the Westin (never stayed there), a Holiday Inn Garden Court (also not that nice) and the Marriott - depending on the rate I usually choose between the last two when I am in the area...

Anyone stayed there recently? Has anything changed since? I'm thinking about staying there with my family (the hotel has 2 doubles in a room, so we should be able to fit 3 small kids in).

What about Freising Marriott? I saw that the rooms are smaller.

We had a recent weekend stay at the Leipzig Marriott where an upgrade to the 6th floor was pre-assigned with the executive lounge just down the hall. The room was very nice and a decent size although not as large as some other properties.

The front desk was efficient with checkin and checkout. The internet was complimentary. Login required a username and password. A printout was generated at the FD upon checkin with the details.

The lounge was open on weekends and was attended very well. There are two sections with an area of tables and chairs and another area with big comfortable chairs and fireplace. The evening hot food offerings were the best I have had in Europe over the past couple of years. Breakfast consisted of the usual hot and cold items and was more than adequate. The lounge was never crowded during our stay

The lounge staff was very friendly. I would not hesitate to stay again.

Had a recent stay here and was upgraded to a studio. Size-wise it was very nice, I was a bit surprised by a lack of sockets. Internet was not ibahn, but good in speed.

The Executive Lounge was actually the best I experienced in a Marriott so far (Better than current Berlin). Breakfast was very nice with the option to get eggs-to-order from the main restaurant (as a Plat you can also have breakfast there), but I was completely awed by the evening selection. On the hot side it was "just" a meat dish and a veggie-dish, but the quality and execution was top-notch. One day they served beef, and it was perfectly cooked and melted in your mouth.
In addition they had a selection of cold snacks, and the usual drinks (one good white, one good red, Rotkäppchen sparkling, Beer and non-alcoholic).
Staff was very nice too, sometimes a bit rough on the edges, but in a good way.

Ulle provided some additional information in the exec lounge sticky recently:

"Lounge open all weekend, but breakfast is served in the restaurant only on Saturdays and Sundays. Full breakfast allowed, appeared on bill, but was removed without problems. You might want to check before if you´re considering mobile checkout. Lounge is still open, so it can be accessed for drinks including tea/coffee or some quiet time (with all the breakfast guests now in the restaurant). This seems like another "improvement". They usually allowed both breakfast in the lounge or restaurant, then limited breakfast to the lounge. Now, it is breakfast in the lounge weekdays and full breakfast in the restaurant on weekends only.

I saw a sign this past weekend in the lounge that they have two tablet computers for guest use in the hotel. Contact lounge staff for more information."

Some of the above posts indicated evening snacks above-average. Is this available Saturday evening? Anybody with recent stays comment on this or on hotel in general. Any recent room renovation/updating? (Some of the web photos make rooms appear a bit tired.) Thanks in advance for any comments.

Stayed at Leipzig Marriott five times this year.

The rooms are older, but clean and well maintained. Make sure you get two door keys, as one key is needed to keep the power to the room on (if you slip away, your phone/ laptop will stop charging).

The executive lounge is very, very good for a small Marriott, well above average.

This thread was very helpful to me as I plan to stay in the Marriott during a late June early July conference in Leipzig.

The lounge has snacks on Saturday nights as well. It also serves a selection of local beers.
