Marriott Leipzig [Master Thread]
Hi,
just booked a room at the Marriott Leipzig for tonight. As this is a weekday stay I assume I will receive free breakfast as Gold and most likely access to the Executive lounge of the hotel. So does anybody know if the breakfast for Golds will also be in the lounge, or will I be able to choose from the same options as Excutive-level guests? In the description of these rooms I find the following: Guest can choose between continental breakfast in lounge or Full American in restaurant, in lounge hot dishes on request Greetings - Dirk |
In case someone is interested in the outcome, I asked on checkin and was old it was my choice, so I went for the restaurant, which again was confirmed the next morning there. When checking out the folio had a 18 Euro charge for breakfast, however when mentioning the information given on checkin the agent appologized for the mistake and took the charge off.
Greetings - Dirk |
Can anyone describe the Marriott? Is it in good condition? How well does it treat platinums? I have a room booked at the Fuerstenhof, but someone reported a better stay experience here.

Stayed there quite a few times since my original post, and in general the hotel is nice, however the service is not up to Marriott standards I expect. As a Plat expect a upgrade to Exec-Level with access to Lounge, but no "special room" or Suite upgrade. In general an OK place, yet the lack of service makes it not really something I enyoed tremendously. Did not use the restaurant except for breakfast once (usually used the lounge - they will get you any hot item you desire on order from the restaurant), but had the Marriott Burger from room-service once - again an OK thing, not more. My benchmark for Germany (Marriott Munich Airport) does better on ANY instance by far.
Location is nice - right across the train station and at the border of the old town area. Lots of places to go and dine out, including my favourite Thai-place (make a left out of the hotel, then a left at the next corner, the right the next corner again - place is on the left about 3 minutes walk from the hotel). As for brand-name hotels, your choice is between the Westin (never stayed there), a Holiday Inn Garden Court (also not that nice) and the Marriott - depending on the rate I usually choose between the last two when I am in the area... Greetings - Dirk |
Anyone stayed there recently? Has anything changed since? I'm thinking about staying there with my family (the hotel has 2 doubles in a room, so we should be able to fit 3 small kids in).
What about Freising Marriott? I saw that the rooms are smaller. |

What about Freising Marriott? I saw that the rooms are smaller. The front desk was efficient with checkin and checkout. The internet was complimentary. Login required a username and password. A printout was generated at the FD upon checkin with the details. The lounge was open on weekends and was attended very well. There are two sections with an area of tables and chairs and another area with big comfortable chairs and fireplace. The evening hot food offerings were the best I have had in Europe over the past couple of years. Breakfast consisted of the usual hot and cold items and was more than adequate. The lounge was never crowded during our stay The lounge staff was very friendly. I would not hesitate to stay again. |
Thanks Melville!

Had a recent stay here and was upgraded to a studio. Size-wise it was very nice, I was a bit surprised by a lack of sockets. Internet was not ibahn, but good in speed.
The Executive Lounge was actually the best I experienced in a Marriott so far (Better than current Berlin). Breakfast was very nice with the option to get eggs-to-order from the main restaurant (as a Plat you can also have breakfast there), but I was completely awed by the evening selection. On the hot side it was "just" a meat dish and a veggie-dish, but the quality and execution was top-notch. One day they served beef, and it was perfectly cooked and melted in your mouth. In addition they had a selection of cold snacks, and the usual drinks (one good white, one good red, Rotkäppchen sparkling, Beer and non-alcoholic). Staff was very nice too, sometimes a bit rough on the edges, but in a good way. Cheers, starlicious |
Ulle provided some additional information in the exec lounge sticky recently:
"Lounge open all weekend, but breakfast is served in the restaurant only on Saturdays and Sundays. Full breakfast allowed, appeared on bill, but was removed without problems. You might want to check before if you´re considering mobile checkout. Lounge is still open, so it can be accessed for drinks including tea/coffee or some quiet time (with all the breakfast guests now in the restaurant). This seems like another "improvement". They usually allowed both breakfast in the lounge or restaurant, then limited breakfast to the lounge. Now, it is breakfast in the lounge weekdays and full breakfast in the restaurant on weekends only. I saw a sign this past weekend in the lounge that they have two tablet computers for guest use in the hotel. Contact lounge staff for more information." |
Some of the above posts indicated evening snacks above-average. Is this available Saturday evening? Anybody with recent stays comment on this or on hotel in general. Any recent room renovation/updating? (Some of the web photos make rooms appear a bit tired.) Thanks in advance for any comments.

Stayed at Leipzig Marriott five times this year.
The rooms are older, but clean and well maintained. Make sure you get two door keys, as one key is needed to keep the power to the room on (if you slip away, your phone/ laptop will stop charging). The executive lounge is very, very good for a small Marriott, well above average. Enjoy your stay. |
This thread was very helpful to me as I plan to stay in the Marriott during a late June early July conference in Leipzig.
|
The lounge has snacks on Saturday nights as well. It also serves a selection of local beers.

Very good news, thank you.

Just returned from a 5-nighter and would recommend -
Zills Tunnel Romanushof Both within 10 minutes of Marriott (Romanishof within 5)

I did not want to go OT on the lounge thread, but the above post by Srisarin recommends restaurants Zills Tunnel and Romanushof. The meal reservation I seek needs to have very good steaks. I am looking at Steaktrain which happens to be close to the Marriott. Any feedback on a place with good steaks from an American point of view? |

Thank you. Given the Steaktrain prices I hope the steaks are not a disappointment.

Here are some notes about the Leipzig, Germany, Marriott.
Lounge hours: 6 am - 12 midnight. Breakfast: 6:30 am - 10:30 am, with Sat and Sun breakfast in the main restaurant. I was told it would cost 20 Euros more for breakfast in the main restaurant on M-F. Evening food: 5:30 - 7:30 warm; 5:30 - 9:30 pm cold. I think the food is good but perhaps limited because of the small size of the lounge. The gym is also very small and has mostly treadmills. There is one multiple-purpose machine and an adequate assortment of dumbbells. I did not use the pool or whirlpool. No problems with check-in, wifi, or staff requests. |
Very impressed with the lounge here and my comfortable 6h floor room. I'm just a few doors down from the lounge making access quite convenient. I see an earlier poster commented about power access. They seemed to have resolved this with a power strip on the end table next to the bed with five outlets.

Hi All,
A quick update for this hotel. My wife and I stayed in late August and found the hotel to be good, if not great. We had a rate of close to 90 euros a night which we did not think was too bad. Hotel location is also close to the main train station and the city center which was a plus. Our room was more or less standard - nothing to "write home about" - however the executive lounge and breakfast offerings were decent. Our only issue was the desk clerk not recognizing my wife's status due to an error with her account after the Marriott - Starwood merger. We eventually convinced her my wife was a Gold member (now Platinum) and could use the lounge / breakfast, but it was not a very warm reception. Thanks for the update. Much appreciated.
Cheers. |
Corona update
Just an update from Leipzig Marriott during Corona.
Titanium benefits update They have provided a modified Lounge experience which is pretty good |
Since it's been awhile since the last report, just wanted to update that I stayed here last week and the lounge was pretty good. Breakfast in the lounge included a few hot dishes each morning (like scrambled eggs, bacon and ham), plus the usual expected cold offerings in Europe (cold cuts, cheeses, yogurt, cereal, salad, smoked fish, etc). Evening service included a variety of small individually plated hors d'oeuvres that rotated, cheese and cold cuts, and a few hot dishes that one could make dinner out of if desired. (For example, one night it was a beef dish, potatoes and pasta). Drinks included sparking, red and white wine, and beers.
No real upgrade given, but I was put on the Executive Lounge floor. The hotel also left a nice welcome amenity with card in the room, consisting of still and sparkling water, and a small dessert. The hotel had signs up celebrating its 25th anniversary, which for me only emphasized that all the hotel decor must be from 1998 and it's probably past due for a renovation. (The rooms and furniture are all well maintained, however.) AC was only able to cool the room to 23 C, but since I had just arrived from another Marriott family hotel in Germany with broken AC, I was happy to take what I could get! I did prefer the Marriott's location to the Westin, even though they are only a few blocks away. The Marriott is right across from the train station, which makes arriving and departing very easy if you're traveling by DB, and also basically in the old town. |
The Leipzig Marriott was far better than I expected based on the room photos - it’s rather impressive how they have managed to maintain this very traditional decor package. Here are my impressions and photos:
Pros:
Cons:
I would return. I think I liked this one more than the Westin. Photos (please expand the Spoiler tag):

Does anyone know when they will finally renovate the Marriott Leipzig? They are good at the maintenance part but here and there you can see that the renovation is now overdue.

I stayed at this property recently for two nights and found it okay, but not impressive. Overall I preferred the Westin.
Check-In was fairly confusing. At some point 1,000 points as welcome gift were mentioned (no other explicit status recognition), and then I was handed the room key without any mention of late check-out, lounge etc. When I asked whether breakfast would be in the lounge (or whether choosing the restaurant was also an option), they handed me a pre-printed sheet and said that this explains all Elite benefits. This included all the information that I wanted, but it was a fairly underwhelming process. Room keys then had to be recoded for late check-out. I was upgraded to a "suite". It didn't look exactly like in EE's pictures above, but was still (just) a larger room with a couch/table area. The room had a proper work desk, but it was difficult to use the electrical outlets due to the way how lamps etc. were plugged in. As others have noted, everything has a pretty tired and dated "old Marriott" feel - not in a "nice and classic" way, but just feels overdue for refreshing and renovating. The lounge is not bad. On the positive side, it has food/snack offerings all day, with a fairly wide selection of cakes and other sweet dishes throughout the afternoon. On the other hand, breakfast had a pretty limited selection. In the evening, they served a (changing) hot dish (plus what looks like bread/cheese/etc. leftovers from breakfast), which I sampled every day, but never really liked. To me, the evening food offering is only good if you want a lot of free food, but otherwise just not very appealing. Housekeeping was underwhelming in the sense that they seemed to do only one "round" on each floor and never check back on rooms that had DND out. In the early afternoon, many rooms already had a "We tried to service your room, but couldn't due to DND" placard on the door. Location is good right opposite the central station. |
Hotel: Marriott Leipzig
Status: Titanium Elite Booked: Deluxe Room ("closet room") Received: Initially a Club Room, later downgraded to a Deluxe Room Welcome Treatment: 0.375L Prosecco (a nice touch) Benefits: 1,000 points Length of Stay: 3 nights Check-in: Friendly and efficient I just returned from a 3-night stay at the Marriott Leipzig and wanted to share my impressions. Upon arrival, I noticed that a corner studio suite was initially assigned to my reservation, but just before check-in, it was silently replaced by a club room. At check-in, I received Room 629 – located right next to the lounge and directly across from the elevators. Unfortunately, every time the lounge door opened or closed, noticeable vibrations could be felt in the bed, and hallway noise was quite present. After a few hours, I asked to switch rooms. Despite multiple suite categories still showing as available in the app, I was moved to a standard room facing the courtyard – again next to the elevators. While elevator noise wasn’t an issue this time, the construction site just outside the courtyard ensured a sharp wake-up call at 07:30 AM on weekdays. To be fair, the rooms are nicely appointed – Nespresso machines even in standard categories, comfortable beds, and a clean, well-maintained bathroom. A complimentary bottle of water was provided, although it wasn’t replenished during the stay – which felt a bit stingy for a 5-star property. Special kudos to the lounge staff – especially the gentleman managing the lounge during my stay. Professional, friendly, and highly attentive. He really stood out in an otherwise rather underwhelming stay. All in all, not a terrible experience, but certainly a mixed one – and not quite what I expect from a Marriott of this level. Just thought I'd share. |
We recently stayed at the Marriott Leipzig. We had no complaints. It is a short walk from the Hauptbahnhof. (Also a short walk to the old town square and St. Thomas Church.) We booked a standard room and received a room on the 6th floor. (No significant upgrade.) Only view was next door building. Room had a desk, chair and another comfy chair. We had breakfast each morning in the regular restaurant (first floor), complimentary for us as MB Platinum. Executive lounge was fine (but not outstanding).
